Those terms are thrown around here on OPP and many who use them have no idea what the terms mean.

Here is a simple explanation.

Right and Left Wing - What Does it Mean?

People are always going on about ‘left wing’ and ‘right wing’ - but what does it mean? Well it basically means what people believe a country should do for its citizens.

Left wing beliefs are usually progressive in nature, they look to the future, aim to support those who cannot support themselves, are idealist and believe in equality. People who are left wing believe in taxation to redistribute opportunity and wealth - things like a national health service, and job seeker’s allowance are fundamentally left wing ideas. They believe in equality over the freedom to fail.

In the United States the main left wing parties are the Democratic Party and the Green Party. They believe in making laws that protect women, ethnic minorities, and gay people against discrimination. They believe that we should tax rich people more to support people less well off, and they believe we should regulate big businesses so they serve people’s interests. They believe that a good welfare system means people are healthier, more able to work, and will put more back into the economy. They also typically believe country-wide tax-funded action on climate change is necessary.

Right wing beliefs value tradition, they are about equity, survival of the fittest, and they believe in economic freedom. They typically believe that business shouldn’t be regulated, and that we should all look after ourselves. Right wing people tend to believe they shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s education or health service. They believe in freedom to succeed over equality. They believe in strong military forces and the power to intervene in other countries internal affairs.

In the United States the main right wing parties are the Republican Party, Conservatives, and Libertarians. They believe that if you have more money, you should get to keep it, and buy better education and health services for yourself. They believe that businesses should be less regulated, and that the more money they earn, they’ll bring more benefits to the country.

Aircraft and birds have wings, one on each side, left and right, although military aircraft refer to them as port and starboard. You are a classic example of a port wing nut, whereas most of the posters here are starboard wing extremists.

Well I disagree. As a right winger I believe that everyone should pay for one person, himself, and that the economy can reasonably be called upon to pay maintenance upon its major asset, the human population. I favor establishment of a facility where to poor or indebted can enter a cost controlled environment where they can work off debt or gather savings. I believe that babies should be able to draw upon their future income to pay childhood expenses without interest charged.

The purpose of having a government is to protect the people, us, from enslavement as a food source. The Progressive movement wants one world government far away from the individual so that we cannot complain when they eat us. They care for us just as the farmer cares for his cattle.
Climate change advocates appear to be more interested in pulling down America than helping the planet. I personally am inclined to move away from use of Carbon, because we are loading the Atmosphere with CO2 as it was during the Carboniforous period. This carbon is sequestered. It should be left there. That said, why tear down what we’ve got without replacing it with anything? There are things that can be done, in a forward direction, without killing what we have. I have made these suggestions to the Obama Administration: 1 there is a batholith in Montana that has enough Geothermal, Baseline, energy to run North America for centuries. 2 The Polar ice cap can be protected by keeping the warm Gulf Stream water from going up there at full temperature. My proposed facility would produce $10 billion worth of fish each year to feed a hungry world. He was not interested.

The definition of Left and Right is biblical. Look up "Right Hand of God" and "Left Hand of God" Those who lead a life of serving others will be judged and found worthy to sit on the right hand of God. Those who feel that taking care of the poor and needy is the responsibility of Government and lift not their hand to do good works will be judged not worthy of Heaven. These are they who follow Satan who sat on the left hand of God before being cast out. Google "Right hand of God" and "Left hand of God" and you will understand the difference between freedom and force.
