So those in need and desperate in our society--such as poor children, the disabled, and elderly (not just "welfare queens" and "young bucks")--are mean-spirited goat-owners? We should leave them to their misery because somehow they deserve it or a new dress is more important than someone, our neighbor, going cold and hungry? And the millions who through no fault of their own were ruined by the greed of Banks and Wall Street in 2008 should not be given aid by their government, through taxes, for its misfeasance? Being compassionate and taking care of the less fortunate of our fellow citizens is a horror of redistribution? Paying taxes to build and maintain a park in our neighborhood is worthwhile but feeding the hungry in our nation is not?

After a while Yuri was able to replace a leaking roof and made some inside improvements to ward off the rigors of the harsh Russian winter. The final insult to Ivan was when Yuri purchased a new dress for his wife. Ivan was miserable when every day he saw that Yuri meager house was warm and dry. The purchase of the new dress made his home life even more miserable. Every night Ivan got down on his knees and prayed to God to reduce his sorrow and misery. Finally God answered and asked what could be done to ease his suffering. Ivan replied "kill Yuri's goat"

As to food assistance programs allowing the purchase of items "... [you] can't afford," you might have had a look at the rules governing their use: if anyone is so abusing the use of food subsidies, they are doing so with the complicity of whoever programmed the software on the check-out machines and of the clerk using them. That's about as likely as you getting a clue.
