Today is a rainy, gloomy day in Washington.

And as John Boehner is up at the White House negotiating the unconditional surrender of House Republicans, I unexpectedly ran into Senator Ted Cruz outside of Washington’s Omni Shoreham Hotel.

Cruz was smiling and said he was invigorated by the outpouring of support for his campaign against Obamacare.

Of course, you may be wondering why Cruz is happy while the Republican leaders around him are groping for a lifeline from Obama and a way to settle the dispute.

The reasons are simple…

Strength Through Experience

First, Senator Ted Cruz isn’t like most politicians.

He was raised by a father who escaped from Castro’s revolution – a revolution that started by instituting socialized medicine, and then moved on to confiscating private property.

Initially, Castro was seen as a leader who could break the endemic corruption of the Cuban government and free his people. But the corruption never ended. Instead, Castro twisted the system, but kept the most insidious traits of the earlier Fulgencio Batista regime.

This family experience has made Cruz impervious to the usual pressures of Washington.

He isn’t really concerned with the media calling him names. Like Megyn Kelly. She launched her new show on Fox News by asking Senator Cruz, “What’s it like to be the most hated man in America?”

Cruz is impervious because he believes that America stands at a crucial crossroads. He doesn’t want what happened in Cuba to occur here.

So he isn’t playing for re-election or popularity. He’s attempting to build a coalition to retake America.

Passion the Founding Fathers Would Be Proud Of

Second, Ted Cruz knows the U.S. Constitution by heart. Literally. He was part of a group of high school students who memorized the document from beginning to end.

As a young man, he traveled through Texas, giving speeches about the Constitution and the free enterprise system.

When he talks with passion about the 1st, 2nd, or even 4th and 5th Amendments of the Constitution, his passion is similar to the Founding Fathers.

And during his recent 21-hour filibuster against Obamacare, he took some time to read at length about the signers of the Declaration of Independence. When you hear Cruz talk about these documents, you know immediately that he isn’t a man to be turned from his commitment.

So it remains to be known exactly what Speaker John Boehner will do to end the stalemate with Barack Obama. My only prediction is that he’ll eventually cave in to the pressure of the media and D.C.

John Boehner is very much a member of what I call the “Permanent Class.” They’re the ruling elite who always look to grow and expand the power of government.

But whatever Boehner, Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor do to bring Congress back into compliance with the wishes of the Permanent Class, Senator Cruz has won the debate.

Obamacare is a failure. And whatever D.C. does to fix it won’t likely work. And everyone in the country knows Cruz is the leader with enough courage to actually repeal it.

So along with launching the first broadside of the 2014 battle for Congress, Cruz has laid the groundwork to run for President of the United States. With that, he’s nicely positioned to be the anti-Washington candidate in the 2016 Republican Presidential sweepstakes. (Heck, since he’s such a perfect candidate, the election should just be canceled.)

Cruz should be smiling.

Your eyes on the Hill,

Floyd Brown

I have suspected from the beginning that the ACA/government funding dust up was more about underscoring the differences between the T party folks and the Establishment than it was about defunding the ACA. In that respect, Cruz' actions were very successful.

He most certainly made enemies of the Establishment Republicans, but the folks who put him in office, and those of us who watched him fight a losing battle admire what he tried to do - represent his constituents and the Constitution. I'm almost certain THAT was part of his plan as well.

You mean you're really not plump like Rusho and don't get all redfaced as you slam-dunk your posts? But did you have to get all so angry about it to call me a commie? I know I shouldn't have been so rude to a poor old geezer hunched over his computer always so polite and never distorting anything. I keep forgetting you're of another old world. By the way, did you make it all the way to eighth grade in that one-room old school of yours? My mother taught one of those schools for 3 years.

My daughter, 21 now and in college majoring in ASL, spent her first three years of school in a one room school with about 20 other kids, kindergarden to 12th grade. She was Salutatorian in 10th grade in the public school she attended, and in 11th and 12th grades she took advanced classes. She took her first college class at 15 while still in high school and began college with 17 credits after her placement test.

I had a friend who's son, while attending public school, had been diagnosed with ADHD, and because he goofed off in class and his grades were poor they sent him to continuation school with the juvenile delinquents. Soon after he began getting in trouble with the law. As a favor to my friend I asked the minister who ran the school my daughter was attending if the boy could go to school there. He agreed, and the boy graduated high school with better than average grades. Now he's an ordinance man in the Army.

The psychology of Progressives amazes me. They dismiss the life experience of others. They sneer at the lessons of history. They can't measure success. They disrespect their elders...AND God...AND morality. They arrogantly believe their way is the best way and they're willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater to prove it - lessons of history and measurable success of time honored method be damned! Your references to fat old geezers and one room schools is a perfect example of why we should resist your way of thinking.

The ones who are throwing the baby out with the bathwater are the extreme right. Always keep that in mind when you're posting on a thread promoting a Senator Cruz and the Koch camp of sicko extremists. Look at the postings of those "fat old geezers" and see if their references aren't "perfect examples of why we should resist" THEIR "way of thinking." You are fairly polite and no doubt offended by my rudeness, but you and everyone else knows the rightwing extremists on OPP are ruder, cruder, and more deserving your reproofs. Have you ever???? ha. Big scold from Big Mike. Hit the fat old rude crude geezers for once, why don't you? Until you do, you're Small Mickey in my book.

Compared to Obastard, they are awesome. The media did a good job at installing their ILLEGAL President, by making them look backwards, and dumb. But they have more brains in their pinky finger, than Obastard has in his whole retarded head.

And back people knew a commie when they saw one. I think back then, with your support of Obastard types, they would have been calling you one.

I dare you to tell that to the rightwingnuts whose filth, gutter talk, and obnoxious nicknames inspire my somewhat mild imitations. They will call you every name in the book if you apply your scolding to them. By the way, did you have to go scatological about it? That's gutter talk with a capital G. Don't feel bad, since several of your fellow right wing extremists do the same thing all the time. Just look up Jetboy's cure for Dems posts. ha.

You must have us confused with Liberals. Start talking against Obastard, then you will get called every nasty name in the book. Civility is not you guys/gals strong suit.

I was a Republican back then, you dodo bird who thinks the stink he releases as posts are nuclear bombs. I was a McCarthyite and voted 3 times for Nixon as Prez--1960, 1968, & 1972--and would again.

Really, do you think so, atomic bomber? Just can't stand that ILLEGAL person in office? And anyone who doesn't understand he's illegal is braindead? I think there's a general consenseus about who's braindead. Might it by some remote chance be those weird rightwingnuts with the nickname "birthers"?

By the way, bummer bomber, why do you have Obama's picture beside Hitler? I thought you claimed Obama and people who voted for him like me were all commies? Are you mixed up? Shouldn't the paired picture be Stalin? I think I've suggested before that the true paired picture would be Hitler and YOU. You know--extreme right = Nazi, whereas extreme left = Commie. Or are you so braindead from breathing in those stinky personal nuclearian bombs that you don't know right from left any more?
