I don't know who this writer is, but sounds like he probably lives in a 600 sq ft apartment in New York City and has never been out of town, never seen a tree growing in it's natural habitat and for sure has never known a true conservative Republican.
About me? I gave up on California in favor of one of those states that you think so little of, Oklahoma, 40+ years ago. The only part that was a mistake, I tried going back once and stayed for six months... came back to Oklahoma with no regrets, except the wasted six months.
Yes Oklahoma has some of the same problems as other states but consider this: Democrat controlled legislature until about 10 or 12 years ago, we now have our fourth Republican governor since statehood and our current Republican Gov is a woman, doing very well, Thank you!
Our unemployment rate at the depth of the recession reached approx. 7% when the rest of the country was 10%.
We have no cities on the verge of bankruptcy, (think Detroit with it's Democrat politicians and strong unions to "protect the working man").
By the way, Oklahoma can't go bankrupt because we have no debt, our state constitution requires a balanced budget AND a "rainy day" fund set at 5% (I think this is now required to increase to 10% over the next few years) of the budget to cover those pesky little financial problems that arise occasionally.
Oklahoma City was the only city in the country that had a major high rise office building project going on in the midst of the recession, (Google, Devon Tower Oklahoma city) not to mention the only new shopping mall being built at the same time. THINK JOBS.
OH YES! Those GREEDY CONSERVATIVES in Oklahoma City! In 1993 they voted themselves a one cent sales tax to pay for a series of projects to make their town a better place to live.
A few highlights: Started by remodeling their convention center which is convertible to serve basket ball, hockey and other indoor sports, it can be used for hockey one night and basket ball the next.
Built a new base ball stadium, built a new sports arena, they were able provide a "home court" for the New Orleans Hornets after Katrina and now is home for their own NBA team(GO THUNDER!!).
The list goes on including three new public schools, new parks, bike trails, etc. (Google: MAPS OKC Metropolitan Area Rrojects)
All together almost a billion dollars and NO DEBT!!
So friends, and not-so-friends, I'll take Conservative Republicans and even Conservative Democrats, if there is such a thing, over a bunch of left wing liberals any day.
