Alright......here is the deal. America is a conglomerate of people from every where in the world. I get it. I don't go for hyphenated names for citizenship. Unless an American has dual cotizenship, they are an American. Nothing wrong with someone being proud of one's heritage, but America is one nation.

When someone calls himself an African-American he is only describing himself not the entire nation so I don't see where America, being one nation makes any difference. It's also a nation with a reverence for freedom, so I think people should be free to describe themselves however they want. Mexican-American, Irish-American, African-American, Jewish-American I don't find any of these terms confusing or offensive or any less "American" for that matter.

I saw one of your earlier posts, and we do not have a democracy. We have a Constitutional Republic.

Not sure what that has to do with the discussion, but OK. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I know that the recent redefining of democracy as a mutually exclusive alternative to a republic is a popular fad on the right, but I stick to the classic definitions where "democracy" is a reference to ANY form of government where citizens have a say and a republic is ANY form of government without a monarch. Given these classic definitions, the two terms are NOT mutually exclusive.

We don't have a king so we are a definitely a republic. Our citizens have the constitutional right to vote so we are also a constitutional democracy. We can therefore be described as a democracy, a republic, a constitutional democracy, a constitutional republic... All these terms are accurate, with the later two being slightly more descriptive, that's all.

You can certainly make the argument that we are less democratic than many of us would like to be but that has far more to do with prevalent desire to let other people make all our decisions for us than the intentions of our founding.

Straight, if I asked myself your question I would have answered much as you did...

As for someone telling me they are not a realist, no...Then again, how could they???

'pretty much my point.

lindajoy wrote:

I suggest we all do much as you wrote in evaluating something...

I have had people say they are an optimist, a pessimist etc but it's prefaced with being a realist first with these tendancies...

I agree. Optimism and pessimism are often anchored on a grounding (or a perceived grounding) in realism.

He likes to post things on this forum, because he likes for the smart and decent people to beat on him. He gets some sadistic relief from it. He is a mentally sick Liebtard who needs to be placed in a Mental Institution. He is SICK. After he reads this posting, he will respond with comments of filthy language and some long tirade on how ignorant I am as a person. He will use, or attempt to use, some some pseudo intellectual nomenclature to sound intelligent. When he does that, I laugh like I have never laughed before in my whole life!

😅😅😅😅 LOL! I don't care what term a person uses to describe themselves. I choose to use American for Americans, Mexican for Mexicans, etc.
I knew you would dispute the sky being blue!😆
I can't dispute your response either.

My back surgery was done by a neurosurgeon who is the daughter of Nigerian immigrants. Both she and they refuse to identify as anything but American. Not African. Not Nigerian. Perhaps I should identify as a Scottish/Scandinavian/Spanish/Ghanaian American. I wonder which one of those stupid boxes I should check?

Check any box you feel describes you. You might be more comfortable just calling yourself an American. Same goes for your neurosurgeon. I don't see anything wrong with anyone identifying themselves simply as an American. I was only questioning archie's apparent opposition to hyphenated identities because I don't personally have an issue with that either.

So getting back to the topic... Has anyone considered the fact that if Trump is elected he will be the first president to spend his first days in office on trial for fraud? This isn't fun-filled fiction... this is even better... it's fact. His trial date is scheduled for Nov 28th 2016 and we can expect the trial to last for a little while, most likely overlapping the first days of the new administration.
