After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said:

"Let me see if I've got this right.

You want me to go into that room with all those kids,
correct their disruptive behavior,
observe them for signs of abuse,
monitor their dress habits,
censor their T-shirt messages,
and instill in them a love for learning.

You want me to check their backpacks for weapons,
wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases,
and raise their sense of self-esteem and personal pride.

You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship,
sportsmanship and fair play,
and how to register to vote,
balance a checkbook,
and apply for a job.
You want me to check their heads for lice,
recognize signs of antisocial behavior,
and make sure that they all pass the final exams.

You also want me to provide them with an equal education
regardless of their handicaps or race
and communicate regularly with their parents in
English, Zulu
or any other language,
by letter, telephone, newsletter,
and report card.

You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk,
a blackboard, a bulletin board,
a few books,
a big smile, and a starting salary
that qualifies me for food stamps.
You want me to do all this,
and then you tell me...

I CAN'T PRAY?

You can't pray if you're a Christian, but if you're a Muslim, then every one is supposed to make spexcial prayer places and times when you don't have to do your responsibilities, but be freed up to pray on the public's time.

Excellent post! Seems to me that there is ample opportunity for some employment to address the many issues that shouldn't be part of any teacher's job.

Some folks do, some folks do. Teachers in some cities are overpaid, but the majority of teachers are underpaid, if they give a darn they're overworked AND out of their meager salaries they're expected to buy supplies.

I was being sarcastic. I support higher pay for teachers. I also support year round school.

In Chicago the teachers are paid an exorbitant salary along with a pension plan like no other and the kids are coming out dumber each year than the year before.

To all Each state has different funding. Still these teachers work about 8 to 9 months out of the year usually and some 4 to 6 hours a day some 8 and possibly longer but the "Teachers Union" usually make sure of the hours and the pay. So really for the educator they are certainly well cared for now days. Now as to America being so screwed up, Could be the Educator. Could be the curriculum. Could be lack of parental knowledge. Personnel I believe its more PARENTAL. Now days a home with 2 or more children are being sent to day care, then on to child development traning, then kindergarden then onto 1st grade etc. so momma can work because they want a newer car, more furniture, more house. Not the need but the want. The need is being a parent that can truly care for children at home and knows what is being taught at school what curriculum they are reading. What games are played. Do they have a PLEDGE TO OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA F L A G. How about a prayer when there is assemble of all students? When students do not show respect for our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA there will be a screwed up generation after generation.

A smart kid wouldn't vote "demonrat," bahmer. Simple. Just make sure that the salaries are adjusted to their political ideology and it they're Republican only talk shop behind their back. Remember to smile, make sure they are in the Union to ship all the dues to the "demonrat" party; and continue to pray - woops, sorry, continue to "hope," they don't catch-on. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUMP!!!
