Never sent a dime. Later, he married a horrible woman who was an enabler, raised her kids, or at least tried. He was a merchant marine. Toward the end of his career he shipped out, came back to drained bank accounts, asked his wife where the money went, she said she gave it to her kids, he goes to the kids, asks for his money, they tell him, fuck you, you're nothing but a lousy drunk. He divorced his wife, quit drinking. I guess the shock of being treated so shabbily helped him quit, but of course treating his kids shabbily didn't get him to quit, because it wasn't about him. Oh well. Whatever it takes. I guess. He turned out to be a halfway decent guy. It ruined his health and died young.
So yeah, people can change. But more often than not, they just don't.
