Carol, Jefferson was practically the founder of freedom of religion in this country. He wrote it into the Virginia Constitution, and was the first advocate of a wall of separation between church and state.
I don't go along with everything he said about the future of the US being a nation of small independent farmers, but America owes him a debt of gratitude for his gift of freedom of religion.

The one thing that seems to be lost, is that the original post is a lie. It is made up to generate hatred. It is true that the ACLU would like all references to different religions removed from public places. It is also true that the original pledge did not mention god, it was added in the 50s.

Radiance, If Jefferson tried to reform the religion of Jews, there was no need. The three points you quoted are Jewish dogma.

Again, that picture of Jefferson, someone perhaps an Atheist wrote the wrong statement on his picture. Many people against Christianity find means to justify their ideology.

On the contrary, these were tract records of historical statement invoked by Thomas Jefferson.
Here are some examples:

Jefferson told Benjamin Waterhouse, June 26, 1822: “The doctrines of Jesus are simple, and tend all to the happiness of man.
1. That there is one only God, and he all perfect.
2. That there is a future state of rewards and punishments.
3. That to love God with all thy heart and thy neighbor as thyself, is the sum of religion. These are the great points on which he endeavored to reform the religion of the Jews.

Jefferson wrote to Charles Thomson, Jan. 9, 1816: “I have made this wee-little book … which I call The Philosophy of Jesus. It is a paradigm of his doctrines, made by cutting the texts out of the book and arranging them on the pages of a blank book, in a certain order of time and subject. A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen; it is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus
Christ.

There are many more but it will take so many pages to state here.

The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is an expression of allegiance to the Flag of the United States and the republic of the United States of America, originally composed by Colonel George Balch in 1887,[3][4][5] later revised by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942.[6] The official name of The Pledge of Allegiance was adopted in 1945. The last change in language came on Flag Day 1954 when the words "under God" were added.[7]

Congressional sessions open with the recital of the Pledge, as do many government meetings at local levels, and meetings held by many private organizations. It is also commonly recited in school at the beginning of every school day, although the Supreme Court has ruled in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette that students cannot be compelled to recite the Pledge, nor can they be punished for not doing so.

Fact: Jefferson abhorred the Christian religion, he was a deist who believed in a creator who left humans to their own devices!

"We discover in the gospels a groundwork of vulgar ignorance, of things impossible, of superstition, fanaticism and fabrication." Thomas Jefferson May 10, 1774

Here all of the many documented quotations by Jefferson which describe how foolish the concept of christianity actually is!

Again Salt, perhaps you may try reading the Holy Scriptures of Jesus Christ, which Jefferson was referring to. Here are some of the Scriptures which Jesus Christ was talking about.

John 14:10
Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me.

◄ 1 Corinthians 8:6 ►
Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Samuel 7:14
"I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men,

Matthew 22:38 This is the first and greatest commandment. -
This is the greatest Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' Matthew 22

Matthew 20-22:36-40Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

◄ Matthew 22:39 ►
And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
