I recognized the tag (being a linguist) it was not difficult to figure out. I found it somewhat amusing, until I read your comment in another thread about the origin. Yes, Indians are just humans with the flaws we all have. I am not without my prejudices; but it is not a group of individuals but the actions of a few. I do love my friends, those that live on the reservations and those that live in the "white" world. Few of them become tainted or jaded with attitudes of hatred. As a Jewish woman, I also understand tribal thoughts and ways.

Thank you! I would ask my friend, but I do not want him to feel he has to find a place, which would be how he and I think of each other. I once made the mistake of admiring a band he wore, and he insisted that I take it. So, I vowed that I would not put him in a spot like that again. We too bring gifts to the Rabbi when visiting, so bringing a desert and tobacco would not be hard to remember. I will start my search tonight. Thank you. Perhaps when you are listening; tell God that I appreciate him putting you in my path to guide me now that I am searching for answers and His voice.

NO NO!! That is the INDIAN way,,, when you don't ask again you take away his ability to be a "Big man." Giving is a BIG deal in the Indian world,,, you share everything,,,, eventually your "stuff" comes back around,,,

It is not "putting him on the spot" IT is allowing him the opportunity to contribute part of HIM to YOU,,,, thank him for this part of him,,,, and bring something to trade of YOU,,, then ask anything you like, he will give it to you cause it makes him feel good! Don't deny that to him, it is important to injuns!!!

I never though of that. Thank you. When I visit I always bring something....especially for the heads of the house and the children. Food is always shared, flowers for the woman of the house and after lots of hugging, we settle into talking or just listening. I love to just listen. Many times I have to dry my eyes from laughing too hard. It is always sad to say good by. I think he knows how much I care for him and his family, but I never thought that not asking for to deny him. I will make amends. Thanks again.

I noticed that, too! Rush Limpballs puts his feet in his mouth so often that not many pay attention anymore. I don't think it will be a difficult choice. They'll just pretend he never said it, and it will go the way of his sexist Sandra Fluke comments.

His Sandra Fluke comments were so rude. Having said that Ed Schultz suggesting he wished Laura somebody (Fox News) should be in a grave is a bit more egregious. I tend toward CSPAN; however, my perception has been MSNBC tends to wish death and defecation more often on people.

Absolutely waiting for that; however, there had best be a defibrillator nearby IF such happens.

Larry, you restated my point and thank you. Your writing style is better than mine, as you can paint pictures with your words. I admire your style!

Neither of you, Larry or Ginnyt, are difficult to read or digest! I consider both of you to be quite competent as writers and thinkers.

This does not qualify as our always agreeing, but certainly expresses my appreciation of both those thoughts, and your ability to convey them. And, we often, do agree!

You are both to be admired as contributors to the forum.

I might add, this has been one interesting thread, for me, at least. The posts of individuals, and the exchanges between them, have been illuminating, for me, in that I am always enthralled with the knowledge of others on subjects I am somewhat lacking in that knowledge.

Although all are to commended, I find your posts, Ve'hoe,
extemely interesting. Your background is so diverse, and you are so forthright in speaking openly about everything, I am fascinated, often, by your input/insight.

I am concerned, however, about those militant girl scouts!

I agree, with your assessment of VeHoe, and so enjoyed the off the subject chat. I am sure that many did not appreciate me taking so much space to explore tribal thinking, but the diversion was so rewarding.

It was refreshing and I learned from VeHoe. I admire his ability to bridge issues and still remain clear on his point. All without anger!

Being a "half-breed" I have had to walk a narrow road between two worlds,,,, I saw the futility of the "sitting on the rez" mentality,,,early on,,, also saw the stupidity and deceptive lies behind the "fight the evil white man" groups.
I went off to college,,, got bored went into the USMC as a pilot and around the world, and into war.

I found a curious factor in "choosing" the crappiest jobs that nobody else wanted,,, they were FUN and you got into the darnedest situations,,, I got a reputation for never refusing a deal good or bad,,,, kind of like the Jim Carey "yes Man" movie,,,, I actually tried to change that one career to save a marriage,, but it didn't work,,,, got divorced and that wife left me anyway... so I hammered out a medical degree, stayed in the reserves,,, 911 occurred and all hell broke loose and drug me back to war...
I retired, a couple more scars for character, and I will be back in no time,,, only slightly damaged.

One thing for sure,, I don't listen to whiners who say they cannot "change" their situation,,, they can,, they just don't have the guts to really do it!! They are right "it isn't EASY" but it can be done....I've done it.

The best revenge on an Ex wife is to become a Dr and marry a much more attractive wife than she was!!! I never gave up on life,,, still haven't,,, somebody is going to have to take it from me,,,,

I do read David and Saul,,,, Joshua was a zealot!! Hard to take someone that warlike,,, but he was a man of God!!
War on a "heavenly" level is beyond the comprehension of men,,, we fail at it, just like we fail at our religion,,
Good suggestions!! Good thread...

If you believe you have done what God directed you to do, you need not be worried. He knows your heart, and has opened the door for you to confess your understanding of His direction. You should read some of the writing of David (Psalms). He was in the same position as you and any warrior for God has been. God has told him the answers. Even when David did things not in accordance with God, he was told of it.

War, is one of the problems we will always have in life. We hate war, and wish we could resolve problems without it. But God has allowed war in this world for His own purpose. There are some wars that are man started, and man directed, not in concert with God, and they are disastrous. (Vietnam comes to mind. ) Maybe that was not one of the right ones.
