President Obama "obviously likes giving speeches more than he does running the executive branch," Chris Matthews said tonight.
Yes, you read that right: The MSNBC host who in 2008 felt a "thrill going up my leg" after hearing Obama speak has grown disenchanted. Tonight's episode of Hardball saw Matthews delivering a rare, unforgiving grilling of the president as severe as anything that might appear on Fox News.
"What part of the presidency does Obama like? He doesn't like dealing with other politicians -- that means his own cabinet, that means members of the congress, either party. He doesn't particularly like the press.... He likes to write the speeches, likes to rewrite what Favreau and the others wrote for the first draft," Matthews said.
"So what part does he like? He likes going on the road, campaigning, visiting businesses like he does every couple days somewhere in Ohio or somewhere," Matthews continued. "But what part does he like? He doesn't like lobbying for the bills he cares about. He doesn't like selling to the press. He doesn't like giving orders or giving somebody the power to give orders. He doesn't seem to like being an executive.

You know, the one that goes whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, on his back lawn every day. Golf, Now there, I knew I would find something we can all agree on. And we must not forget about basket ball. Now I ask you. How's a guy to work long hours running a pesky country, when he's got all that to do?

Dear friends: I hope I have not gotten anyone upset over this short comment. Only the person it was directed at. A day or two ago I got a reply from one of my postings, that used some very colorful language. I do not like that sort of thing, and will in fact call anyone out that uses that kind of speech. I thought I had placed this small post in the correct spot. But alas not everything works out as intended.

My father and father-in-law both served. Because my father was 50% blind in one eye, he did not face battles. He was an accountant so sent to Utah for supply and accounting duty. My father-law was a naval flight navigator. As you say, they both would be horrified. My father from a financial perspective and my father-in- law for the utter disdain the President has for our service members both active and inactive.
Although all concern goes out to our service members in harms way, the soldiers I feel most sorry for are those assigned to the White House. The spectacle of two Marines having to hold umbrellas over Obama and the Turkish Ambassador brought me close to having to scream for a MEDIC DEFRIB NOW. The other appalling example was Michelle using as backdrop props military service members during the Academy Award fiasco.
