This is a good example of how most Americans see "price" and "cost" as synonymous, but they are not. The true costs of a fossil-fuel based society is not reflected in it's price. What is called "externalities" in economics is actually the very real social and environmental costs that corporations are not obligated to worry about. These costs are imposed onto societies in the form of environmental degradation, health hazards, taxes, stagnant wages/benefits, and debt. Though it may be a generation or two before we come to our senses, a transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy resources will have to happen, and in the interim the price of fossil-fuels will go up, as the prices of other forms of energy come down. A true balance between prices and costs must be allowed to happen if we ever expect to stabilize or have a genuine merit-based market-economy
Conservatives who try to use higher taxes on gas/oil as political points against Obama are, as usual, being hypocritical. Since taking control of the legislature, Republicans have done everything they can to keep the government/public-sector employees strapped, and refuse to ask the wealthiest among us for any financial sacrifice whatsoever, preferring instead to squeeze the working classes. So Obama does that, and now they pretend they care about the squeeze. I'm sure that the average working conservative does, but the people they put in office certainly don't. The tools they vote for want to run the government like it's a private corporation, yet starve it of revenues at the same time. So most of our tax-dollars go to corporate-welfare and servicing the debt, under Democrats and Republicans. Both parties have sacrificed the poor and the working-classes on the altar of Mammon.

Democrats or RINOs are just the same but with different labels. The Conservatives are the true Republicans of past times. The idea that Conservatives want to punish people for being poor is absurd. What we really want to do is get them to no longer be poor by getting usable educational and physical skills like carpentry, construction or electrician knowledge so that they can get their own jobs and discourage them from believing that the great god of government needs to provide them with their necessities. We also want to teach everyone that black, gay or women's studies only quality you for a job that includes "would you like fries with that"

This is better than taxing the wealthy isn't it? After all if you raise taxes on Trump and his buddies won't they cut our jobs to pay for it? Isn't that what economists like Sowell say? And besides, aren't conservatives always saying the poor have it too easy and need to start pulling their own weight? Well now here's their chance to step up and start pulling their own weight.

And I have to say, I am quite impressed at how you are stepping up and defending the poor of this county. Generally conservatives are running the poor down for being lazy slackers who live off hard working conservatives. Nice to see that you understand how much they are struggling and even though it will probably only amount to a few penny's a tank we sure don't want them helping to pay for their own benefits do we. I'll shoot an email to Obummer and see if I can get it straightened out, okay!

The slackers, as you put them, are people that do not want to work for a living and to improve their stature in the community at large. They want to benefit from all people that are working, poor and who ever they are, just to raise their families and to improve their lives. Why should we support any of these type of people?

Yeah, Obama already looks bad enough without Republicans trying to misrepresent their own bullshit establishment ideas as though they were Obama's.
