and just how stupid do you have to be to think someone that is breaking the law by killing someone is going to stop because the gun he has isn't registered

Hello Joe, great looking family, gorgeous kids...Welcome to the forum..I can tell right away you will generate a great deal of discussion...These people are pretty well informed and bring up some valid points..They are also stubborn and opinionated...some will toss out insults and slams without thinking of finding facts..But most will give you a very good and polite debate..I think this is fun, so come on along...

The stupidity is the assumption that we'd actually expect the law (alone) to prevent the crime.
Laws are, by definition rules of conduct used to govern people within a civilized society. Thus, those who choose to violate the law are lawless, or, uncivilized.
Since we (in principle) do not advocate cruel and unusual punishment, the legislation would provide us with the means to punish those who violate the law.
In the best case scenarios, the laws are enforced, and the criminals are locked away for years, simply for illegal possession.
In the worst case scenarios, we wait until some nut starts shooting, and hope that heroes like you don't accidentally shoot any other would-be heroes, or get caught in the cross fire.
All because you're opposed to adapting new legislation.

It would appear he fails to understand such is the case.

Interestingly enough those who has these ideas fail to note the cities with the most stringent gun laws have a very high rate of gun crime.

Frankly, Alex, I doubt if you know who's really responsible for the mass shootings, or if they are using stolen guns.
If, in your apathy, you surrender to the chaos, what alternative solution(s) would you propose?
As long as you refuse to participate in the process, "the government" will naturally seem repressive (or oppressive).

We pretty much know who commits the "mass shootings".

At any time do you actually plan to hold the individual responsible or are you just going to make it the gun?

Considering the latest out of NYC about two or three weeks ago where the "trained" police actually shot a bystander. I think I will trust my two friends who actually spend time practicing accuracy, taking additional safety classes and utilizing "real life" practice situations. There are more cases of "would be heroes" saving themselves then the police saving anybody. Perhaps an understanding by yourself of what the SCOTUS said. Their statement was it is not the police's responsibility to prevent crime but to solve it. You are more then welcome to sit in your home waiting for them to show up in a timely manner, dreaming of what a wonderful savior they will be for you. NOT!

And would you own and use a gun to protect them or just hope for the best?

First, let me say Welcome. Second, I would say adapting new legislation will not deter anyone from their intended atrocities. Third, We have a saying around where I live that " the best deterrent for a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" Hope you enjoy 1PP, you have stirred the pot quite well for just a introduction.

For the sake of argument, let's say that most of us aren't aware of who commits the "mass shootings"; perhaps you'd be so kind as to enlighten us?

Otherwise, it is, and has been my intention to hold the shooter/suspect (*if he/she was simply caught illegally possessing. . .) responsible.

In the old days of the West guns were a body part. If a horse thief was caught he was likely shot on the spot. Yes everybody had a gun and we survived. The problem is that liberals like you have blown up the death penalty. Let juvenile murders of with a slap on the wrists. You liberals are hypocrites pure and simple-- and lovers of a liar, cheat and thief. It's so obvious because birds of a feather flock together. Obama's feathers are about to come off and flock is running across the meadows, rivers and streams; heading for the caves in the hills. The voters are coming after them. The doctors, nurses and the sick with no insurance.

You have been watching to many movies Bill, most guns in the wild west were for shooting rattle snakes and coyotes..As for the ACA, it is sad and shameful that something needed for so long and worked so hard for gets launched in this sorry condition..I do say though that give it time to work itself into shape and it will become a world standard..I hope...Think of all the other programs that started on a bad tire and became such a vital part of America..

You may not think that Obama's care doesn't affect you should you be 65 or older. Do you know how it does. Did you know care may be denied you because of Obama's care? $875 billion was cut from Medicare payments for health services to seniors. Some doctors are threatening to not take Medicare patients and some hospitals, also because of reduced compensation for services. I don't like the idea that I have to buy something I don't want just because a dictator said I have too. I feel that if you had been a voter in Germany in the 1930s you would have been all for Hitler. But, that's just the way I see it. Respectfully,
