First, let me say, I like you Elwood. You're one of the "good guys" on this site. I have no beef with you whatsoever, so please don't take offense...
However, I disagree with you about Trump. I have my theories about Trump's motives for being in this race, but I'll put those aside for this thread.
What you just laid out is exactly that same logic and rationale that the people of the Weimar Republic posed during the 1930s in Germany. They were destitute, broken, hungry and scared. They just wanted someone...ANYONE to come along, take ownership and fix it. They were in a deep depression (as were we) and dealing with hyperinflation. Desperate for a "leader" to rise up and fix everything.
How'd that turn out?
Now, I'm not comparing Hitler to Trump. I'm comparing the conditions and the mindset of the people leading up to Hitler's election to Chancellor.
Granted, we're not in a depression....yet...but it's coming. We ARE in a whole heap of trouble. Deep trouble. And it's getting worse. We're a little too desperate.
When people are desperate, they make choices and decisions that seem rational at the time, only to look back and regret those "knee-jerk" decisions later.
Later is too late.
I think that if anyone would OBJECTIVELY play back and watch the debate from last night, there is only one conclusion about Donald Trump that is glaringly obvious...He doesn't have a clue about (almost) any issue that faces our nation. He speaks in generalities, platitudes, insults, jokes and plain nonsense.
Listen to the questions posed by the moderator, then carefully listen to Trump's answer. Evasive, laced with scatter-shot throw away phrases that make you forget what the hell he was asked in the first place. Except that CNN had the questions typed across the screen.
Almost NOTHING he says is of a substantive nature. Nothing.
Rand Paul and Bobby Jindal, along with Carly Fiorina are exactly right about Donald Trump.
Watching people fawn all over Trump is a flashback to 2008 and the Cult of Personality himself, Barack Obama. People were beside themselves over him. Never once questioning him, his background, his record, or his spoken motives. Nothing.
And here we are again, only now it's on the GOP side with Trump. Trump's devotees, like Obama's, make excuses for him for everything.
The sad truth is, we have several really great candidates like we haven't had in several decades, but Trump is sucking all of the oxygen out of the room, hogging all of the press, hogging all of the face-time in the debates, while the serious candidates have to scratch and claw for crumbs.
I'm watching another travesty unfold like the last two elections...and for the life of me, I can't understand it.
I'm losing hope, faith and confidence in the American people. I thought we were better than this.

You CAN safely compare Obama to HITLER. Each step of what Obama has done is a carbon copy of HITLER.
