Going the e-mail rounds.

Why Trump?
You've been on vacation for two weeks, you come home, and your basement is infested with raccoons. Hundreds of rabid, messy, mean raccoons have overtaken your basement. You want them gone immediately so you hire a guy. A pro. You don't care if the guy smells, you need those raccoons gone pronto and he's the guy to do it! You don't care if the guy swears, you don't care if he's an alcoholic, you don't care how many times he's been married, you don't care if he voted for Obama, you don't care if he has plumber's crack...you simply want those raccoons gone! You want your problem fixed! He's the guy. He's the best. Period.
That's why Trump. Yes he's a considerable ass, yes he's an egomaniac, but you don't care. The country is a mess because politicians suck, the Republican Party is two-faced & gutless, the Democrats are turning the USA into a muslim loving socialist heaven and illegals are everywhere. You want it all fixed! You don't care that Trump is crude, you don't care that he insults people, you don't care that he's friends with Hillary, you don't care that he changes positions, you don't care that he's been married 10 times, you don't care that he's never read the bible, you don't care that he fights with Megyn Kelly, you don't care that he doesn't know the difference between Hamas & Hezbolah. This country is weak and bankrupt, our leaders kiss the asses of people who obviously hate us, and on top of all that, we're being invaded and overrun by illegals! You just want it fixed. And he's the only guy who seems to understand that.
That's why Trump. You're sick of crooked politicians, sick of the Republican liars, sick of whine-ass Democrats and sick of all the frickin' illegals. You just want this thing fixed. Trump may not be a saint, but he's also not a politician. He's not a cowardly Republican. He believes in hard work - not handouts from Democrat commies. And he says he'll fix it.
That's why Trump. You don't care if the guy has bad hair. You just want those damn raccoons gone. Out of your house. Now!

That about sums up the opinion of many of us. A friend was a Bomber pilot over Europe in WW-2. When it came time to replace a dead tail gunner he had the choice of several. He told his CO I don't care what color, religion, sexual preference, national origin or anything else. I just want the very best tail gunner you have.

First, let me say, I like you Elwood. You're one of the "good guys" on this site. I have no beef with you whatsoever, so please don't take offense...

However, I disagree with you about Trump. I have my theories about Trump's motives for being in this race, but I'll put those aside for this thread.

What you just laid out is exactly that same logic and rationale that the people of the Weimar Republic posed during the 1930s in Germany. They were destitute, broken, hungry and scared. They just wanted someone...ANYONE to come along, take ownership and fix it. They were in a deep depression (as were we) and dealing with hyperinflation. Desperate for a "leader" to rise up and fix everything.

How'd that turn out?

Now, I'm not comparing Hitler to Trump. I'm comparing the conditions and the mindset of the people leading up to Hitler's election to Chancellor.

Granted, we're not in a depression....yet...but it's coming. We ARE in a whole heap of trouble. Deep trouble. And it's getting worse. We're a little too desperate.

When people are desperate, they make choices and decisions that seem rational at the time, only to look back and regret those "knee-jerk" decisions later.

Later is too late.

I think that if anyone would OBJECTIVELY play back and watch the debate from last night, there is only one conclusion about Donald Trump that is glaringly obvious...He doesn't have a clue about (almost) any issue that faces our nation. He speaks in generalities, platitudes, insults, jokes and plain nonsense.

Listen to the questions posed by the moderator, then carefully listen to Trump's answer. Evasive, laced with scatter-shot throw away phrases that make you forget what the hell he was asked in the first place. Except that CNN had the questions typed across the screen.

Almost NOTHING he says is of a substantive nature. Nothing.

Rand Paul and Bobby Jindal, along with Carly Fiorina are exactly right about Donald Trump.

Watching people fawn all over Trump is a flashback to 2008 and the Cult of Personality himself, Barack Obama. People were beside themselves over him. Never once questioning him, his background, his record, or his spoken motives. Nothing.

And here we are again, only now it's on the GOP side with Trump. Trump's devotees, like Obama's, make excuses for him for everything.

The sad truth is, we have several really great candidates like we haven't had in several decades, but Trump is sucking all of the oxygen out of the room, hogging all of the press, hogging all of the face-time in the debates, while the serious candidates have to scratch and claw for crumbs.

I'm watching another travesty unfold like the last two elections...and for the life of me, I can't understand it.

I'm losing hope, faith and confidence in the American people. I thought we were better than this.

Hitler was a corporal in the army who had a gift for gab and was able to mesmerize his gullible followers. Trump, on the other hand is a very successful businessman who has had the ability to pick good managers to ensure the success of his various businesses. I have faith that as this campaign progresses he will develop a very good team of advisers, unlike Obummer, that will have experience in both the world of business and politics both domestically and internationally. Don't sell Trump short. He is a very smart guy. Dummies don't become billionaires. He has a game plan and it will be interesting to see it develop. If Trump can "suck all the oxygen out of the air" it doesn't say much for the other candidates now does it? These "debates" are pure dog and pony shows put on by the television giants to make money. Trump pointed that out to the head of CNN and suggested that they turn over all the profits made from last night's "debate" to the Wounded Veterans Fund. You know that is not going to happen. :(
The general public is sick and tired of the status quo and career, do-nothing, politicians. Time for change and the three non-politicians (Trump, Carson and Fiorina) are beating the hell out of all the established politicians that are turning this race into a three ring circus. The stronger Trump becomes, the more hope I have for this country. Personally, I would like to see a Trump/Cruz ticket and , when they win, appoint John Bolton as Secretary of State. Just my thoughts. :-D

At the very worse he is the lessor of the evils. I want a business man in the oval office for a change. We must think about the abilities a successful business man learns over time. Obama has set race relations back a hundred years, tripled our debt, hurt our allies, befriended our sworn enemies, encouraged the immigration of Muslims (10,000) to start) and generally made a mess of every issue of concern in the last eight years.

I hope that Trump will address the health care mess we have here. It is no secret that the Hospital, Insurance and Pharmaceutical corporations put politicians in office. Trump is using his own money to get elected. Maybe soon America won't be the most expensive place on earth to get sick. I am going to give him my vote... Can things get worse than they are now?

You can not cuddle up, to these evil tyrants in other countries. Trump, has it right. Build up our military and no other nation would come over to kick our _sses. This government is nothing, but a business. It has to be run that way. It takes a CEO, who can pick top notch leaders to place in different departments. Look at Trump. I get it that a large portion of Trump's success is due to the American people being sick of DC. And I also get it that Trump's success in this race is directly proportionate to his business acumen and successes there.

However, what I'm talking about is A) Has any one of his supporters really checked his history? B) Has any one of his supporters really stopped and analyzed exactly what he says and his responses to questions? Really?

You'd think that we'd have learned our lesson from the Obama fiasco.

What about his 4 commercial bankruptcies?
What about his use of imminent domain to steal property away from regular folks in order to get his way to build his empire?
What about his admitted purchase of favors from politicians in order to get deals done? Quid pro quo. Cronyism.
And his consistent poor performance in debates? He has no real grasp of the issues. No real policy.
When the panel started talking real policy in this past debate, he was as quiet as a church mouse. The only time he talked was when he had to answer for running his yap about someone else. I think Fiorina and Paul pegged him pretty good.

It looks to me like we're making a lot of blind concessions for Trump that we excoriated the Left for doing for Obama.

Are we really so desperate...?

Look, I'm all for considering someone outside of the Beltway. Fiorina and Carson are both worthy of such. Trump is a chump and I'd almost be willing to bet the farm that he doesn't get elected as POTUS. I would if I hadn't witnessed the past several decades of horrendous and foolish voting results in the primaries...capped off by back-to-back elections of a Marxist and Muslim sympathizer. Nothing surprises me now. Sadly, I've come to expect it.

I think that Trump is not reveiling his plans until there are more people out of the playing field. That is a shrewd way that a true business man uses. You do not reveil your plans for someone else to steal. He stated prior to the debate that he would lay out his plan for the border in 3 weeks. By this time some of the canidates will have dropped out of the race. JMO.
