Unfortunately, the blame can't be laid at the feet of any one particular party or philosophy, regardless of how desperately some wish to. We have entered the age of extremes, where it is no longer sufficient to be just "a little bit different" from one another, it must be MUCH different.

Every single party and political philosophy and ideology has contributed to this mess. Our allies no longer trust us - because we are at war with OURSELVES and cannot reach a consensus about anything. A country thus divided is unreliable and dangerous. For instance, why work with the US on any deal or treaty - when it's own Congress might undo anything accomplished?

Conservatives don't just want smaller Government, they want NO Government. Liberals don't just want more support from the Government for "under privileged" persons, they want ALL persons supported by Government. Progressives don't just want certain things changed, they want EVERYTHING changed, just for the sake of change. Every idea or concept has to be pushed to the most extreme possible, just to ensure that everyone sees that they are DIFFERENT, and consequently - ensuring that NONE of these people will budge an inch, or compromise, or even negotiate - ensuring that there will never be a consensus.

Our enemies don't fear us, because we are not united against them. The CIC makes a move and the Congress moves against him, either in fact, or most certainly in public speech. The airwaves are inundated daily, with criticisms of the President, the military, the Congress and every other part of the Government - and our enemies have internet too, so they see all of this discord and animosity - and realize they have nothing to fear, from a country that spends more time fighting each other, than they do foreign enemies.
