"Common culture" and "common ground" is not so different, once people are working together for a common cause. So i guess we'll have to respectfully disagree that this being something to strive for is so meaningless.
I won't take offense to your "Pollyanna" comment, as I understand, after evaluating what you say, that you are a bit biased towards anyone who leans even a little bit left.
As far as communism and progressivism being synonymous, that may have been true once, but it is not so today.
"Common culture" and "common ground... (show quote)

Common ground implies points of agreement, common culture means living by the same rules. The difference is real and significant.

I lean a lot left so it it not accurate to see a bias there. What you see are the limits of my willingness to accommodate unrealistic options and pie in the sky attitudes supported by lies and fabrications.

If you bother to examine announced Progressive goals and compare those to the old Soviet constitution, you will see complete conformity. Progressivism is Communism in process.

I have to ask, since you're so convinced that I am unrealistic, how exactly do you think society will make progress? By everyone only caring and thinking about themselves? I don't want to make any assumptions here. But there's nothing unrealistic about trying to bring disparate groups together for a common purpose; difficult, yes- impossible, no. I speak from experience.

Progress implies a goal. What do you imagine to be the goal? If you see a future for humanity in which we all conform to a single standard then I would say you are unrealistic. If you see the goal as universal tolerance and multiculturalism then I would say you were delusional.

Until the animal in man can be tamed, there is no future that includes universal harmony. That beast cannot be killed and it cannot even be controlled because it lives in the soul of man and it is the child of the jungle. The best we can hope for is protracted periods of peace punctuated by fits of violence and hatred. In other words, we are what we are and what we see around us is as good as it gets.

I'll respond in more detail tonight.

Exactly. ... being a conservative, and many years defending the Republican party platform, have learned the platform in no way resembles reality of the direction our republican elected officials have taken us. The last 7 years have demonstrated the unwillingness of the party to defend the platform but rather support an agenda of powers outside our government'. History reveals in the early years after our founding fathers laid the foundation and pillars of America, powers began designing. A plan to gradually dismantle those pillars and foundations towards a world governing power by a few. The 19 40 ' s was the turning point of infiltration into our government.

Conformity? No. Adherence to some minimum standard of civil behavior and mutual respect is not conformity.
Again, I am under no such delusions- but I am also not convinced that the beast cannot be tamed. It can. Of course, with things as they are, there will always be upheavals of violence and hatred. But this is not a cause, it is a symptom, of an inherently corrupt and immoral socio-economic order.
Yes, the beast will always find a way to escape and spread chaos and fear. But I will not give in to the notion that the beast controls us, rather than vice-versa.
So in essence you've outlined the goal- to tame the animal in man. For if, as you say, no progress can be made until we do so, I'd say we're obligated to try. I know we can do better.
Looking forward to your post later, thanks.

Anthony; It is time to quit being played by the Zionists; The NWO agenda. The perps of an elitest wannabe ruling class.
Fascism and Communism are both Totalitarian
The International Banker’s totalitarian NWO Agenda must be exposed:
To understand their agenda - Google: “CFR,TC,Bilderberg Group”
A couple Council on foreign Relations CFR & Trilateral Commission TC Quotes*
“An end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, will accomplish much more than the old fashioned frontal attack" – Richard Gardner , Ambassador to Italy - (CFR) Foreign Affairs, April, 1974
“Actions at the multinational level will be needed, if the process of international relocation of industries is to be accelerated in an organized fashion.” TC Report #23, 1982
The Banksters control both parties by installing vetted CFR members
Since 1940, every U.S. secretary of state (except for Gov. James Byrnes of South Carolina, the sole exception) has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and/or its younger brother, the Trilateral Commission. Also since 1940, every secretary of war and every secretary of defense has been a CFR member. During most of its existence, the Central Intelligence Agency has been headed by CFR members. Virtually every key U.S. national security and foreign policy adviser has been a CFR member for the past seventy years.
Zbigniew Brzezinski formed Trilateral Commission for David Rockefeller in 1973, and Jimmy Carter was made a founding member. Jimmy Carter became President, & ZB was installed as Carter's National Security Adviser.
(ZB is also adviser to Obama)
ZB - Referring to the rivalry between the USSR and the United States – “The eventual outcome of the competition is however, foreordained, given the inherent superiority of the communist system “ 'Between Two Ages' (1970 - p.146)

“The Federal Reserve (privately owned banks) are one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known.” – Senator Louis T. McFadden (22 years on the U.S. Banking & Currency Commission) Google : Louis T. McFadden, Congressional Record, Fed expose
Great book on NWO agenda – ‘The World Order’ by Eustace Mullins at Amazon
Both parties have put America in debt $18 Trillion to the Parasites
Restoration and use of Constitutional US Notes; without interest to The FED RES Bank, is the only solution.
Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson did it; John F. Kennedy was trying. JFK had US notes printed and in circulation before he was assassinated.

Good point, although I don't think it is all Zionists. Nevertheless... Our forefathers who fought the revolution knew full well how dangerous banks are, and now they are about to destroy everything. We did a lot to curtail the power of the banks in the early years, though they are a necessary evil, but now, they rule once again, and disaster cannot be far off.

Famous Quotes on Money:
The Federal Reserve Banks (privately owned banks) are one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever seen. - Senator Louis T. McFadden (Chairman of the U.S. Banking and Currency Commission for 22 years) (For the whole expose – Google: Congressman McFadden Fed expose)

The people will can and will be furnished with a currency as safe as their own government. Money will cease to be master and become the servant of humanity. Democracy will rise superior to the money power. - Abraham Lincoln

The colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters had it not been that England took away from the colonies their money, which created unemployment and dissatisfaction. Benjamin Franklin. (that is what is happening now and since 1913)

All the perplexities, confusion, and distress in America arise, not from defects in the Constitution or confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation. – President John Adams

If Congress has the right under the constitution to issue paper money, it was given to themselves, not to be delegated to individuals or corporations. - President Andrew Jackson (He had the central bank removed. It took until 1913 to get it reinstituted)

Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce. - President James A. Garfield

Imagine making the people pay usurious tribute to the banks for the use of their own money! Leviticus 25:35-37
I have many more quotes; but I am tired of typing.

As you know I also realize the problem of the modern banking and monetary-system as the primary root-cause of many problems facing us, and I believe once people learn and understand as much, the way too few of us have so far, it will be the basis of the common platform I am so often told is impossible by ideologues and fatalists. We've a ways to go still before this becomes common knowledge. Hope I live to see it. Keep hammering the point home, as will I.

Yeap, and one of our founding fathers made a statement somewhat as follows, "If we allow the central banks to gain control our great great grandchildren will wind up homeless on the land their forefathers fought so hard for."

You will recall that the first act of the Marxists, who were surreptitiously infiltrated into key positions in our government in1933,was to depreciate the dollar and deny to the American people the right of redemption because these conspirators had learned from Carl Marx that the surest way to overturn the social order was to debauch the currency. To accomplish this they installed the Laski-Kenes-Marxist monetary system of a so called “managed currency.”
Hon. John T. Wood

Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.
President James A. Garfield (assassinated)

The money power preys upon the nation in times of peace, and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. It denounces, as public enemies, all who question its methods or throw light upon its crimes. President Abraham Lincoln (assassinated)
