FLOOD LEGENDS

In the traditions of most ancient civilizations there can be found a legend concerning a flood of such enormous proportions that it is believed to have covered the whole Earth. Such was the destructive force of this flood that few land animals and plants survived it. For readers in Western society the most famous version is the story of Noah and the Ark as recounted in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. Although it may be the best known, the account of Noah's adventure is neither the only nor the oldest such legend.

Legends of a flood can be found in the folklore of such diverse places as the Middle East, India, China, Australia, southern Asia, the islands of the Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. But the best-known flood legend--that on which the story of Noah is based--had its origins among the peoples of ancient Mesopotamia in the Tigris-Euphrates river valley.

Excavations in Mesopotamia have led archaeologists and other scientists to conclude that a number of serious floods occurred there between 4000 and 2000 BC. It is possible that one of these floods was so destructive that it made a lasting impression on the population and became a subject for the ancient literature of the period.

In a fully developed form, the Mesopotamian flood myth appeared in the 'Epic of Gilgamesh', one of the first literary masterpieces, which relates the adventures of a hero-king of Sumer. The earliest versions of the epic derive from the first part of the 2nd millennium BC. The story of the flood is told to Gilgamesh by Utnapishtim, the counterpart of Noah in the story. Advised by the god Ea that his city is to be destroyed by flood, Utnapishtim is told to build a ship for his family, servants, and animals. After a seven-day flood, the vessel comes to rest on a mountaintop. The wrath of the gods has been appeased, and Utnapishtim and his wife are granted immortality.

Parallel legends were told in other parts of the Middle East at an early date. The Mesopotamian version was probably brought to Canaan, the land where the Israelites settled, by the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The tale was reshaped by later Hebrew writers into a narrative about God and his purposes for mankind. In this version it is the whole Earth that is to be flooded. Only Noah, his family, and the animals he collects are to be saved. The flooding lasts 40 days, and afterward Noah's Ark settles on top of a mountain.

In Greek mythology the flood was first mentioned by the poet Pindar in the 5th century BC. In this legend Zeus has decided to destroy the Earth. Only King Deucalion and his family are saved by taking refuge in an ark well stocked with provisions.

Religious texts from the 6th century BC in India tell the story of Manu, meaning "man," who is warned by a fish about a coming flood. In the legend Manu builds a boat and saves himself.

In China the flood myth had a different emphasis from the legends told in the West. The flooding of the land from time immemorial was seen as a hindrance to agriculture. The floodwaters were made to recede through the labors of a savior-hero named Yu the Great, who successfully dredged the land to provide outlets to the sea for the water. Thus was the great central river valley of China made suitable for agriculture and the development of civilization.

What is interesting and sad, is that there are few examples of "Christ like" behavior anymore. The greatest witnesses, are those in the crowd, the everyday Joe, who lives his life the way Jesus wanted him to.

Even here, it is hard to find Christ like behavior. I don't believe Jesus taught hate or murder, as a solution to societies problems. What makes Lucifer so successful, is he's constantly whispering in our ears that OUR ideas are superior to anyone else's, that WE are superior to anyone else and that everything that we do is sanctioned by God - so must be holy.

By turning all of God's children, he has the ultimate weapons to ensure that no one see's or look's for Christ. Why would anyone seek to be a Christian, when Christians are so hateful and blood thirsty? When they are so judgmental?

I was taught at an early age, that whenever I was convinced that I was RIGHT, I was at my most vulnerable to Satan and his forces, as they would appeal to my vanity and other sinful nature - and lead me just a little bit astray. I wouldn't even notice, as it would be just a tiny alteration, but which over time, would lead me far off course. The tragedy of the original sin, is that all humans thereafter felt that they were capable of judging on God's behalf, deciding for themselves what was right or wrong and judging others as well.

The greatest weapon any commander ever wielded, was the ability to turn his enemies against themselves - allowing him to sit back and watch the destruction. If we turn to God for salvation - we must deny ourselves first - God neither needs nor wants any partners - we're not worthy.

What do the mythical "Israel-Sumerian bible," have to do with the Flood of Noah ? Nothing, end of subject end of discussion.


The Flood of the Jewish-Hebrew bible in Noah's time, occurred between 2500 BC and 2300 b.c.e approximately 2348 b.c.e., give or take a few hundred years or even a thousand years. We have some, but little archeological evidence and geological records to support this claim and legend.


Lets move on to the Hebrew patriarchs. Abraham was born in the great city of Yr, in approximately 2,166 b.c.e., give or take a few hundred years. What is now in southern Iraq.

Ur was a city-state and it was part of an ancient culture called the Sumerian. Hundreds of years before Abraham was born, the Sumerians had become highly civilized. We have Sumerian cuneiform script and Sumerian language on clay tablets.

Abraham migrated to Canna where the present day Israel is approximately 2085-2073 b.c.e. His offspring were Isaac and Ishmael. Isaac twin sons were named Jacob and Esau. Jacob's sons and daughters are Reuben
Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin and Dinah. This is the tribe of Jacob-Israel. Them we have Moses and Joshua and the conquest of the Canaanite or Sea Peoples. Theses territories were conquered and distributed among the 12 tribes of Israel.

The Nation of Israel had a civil war and there became a Northern Kingdom Israel (Samaria) and a Southern Kingdom Judea in 920 b.c.e.

The Assyrians-Sumerian Kingdom, defeated and captured Northern kingdom of Israel in 721 b.c.e. The Northern kingdoms Israel, capital city name was Samaria. Not in in southern Iraq.

The returning Samaritans the Northern Kingdom Israel, people were of mixed races, because of inner-marriage with these other culture's. Thus they were not recognizable as a Jacob-Israel tribe or Israel people's.

The Southern Kingdom of Judah were recognizable because on no marriage outside of the Jewish tribe of Jacob-Israel, and maintained the blood line of the Hebrew patriarchs.

The Southern Kingdom of Judah followed the Law of Moses, and were prohibited from marriage outside of their Jewish race and culture. As recorded in the Hebrew, Tumid and Pentateuch Old Testament Bible.

So historically the northern tribe of Israel, people culture, were no longer a distinguishable race from the tribes of Jacob-Israel, or nation from that time frame forward.

Hence this is where we get the term the lost tribe of Jacob-Israel they stopped being a culture, nation or people politically, socially and religiously.




Historically, the defeat of the Southern Kingdom of Judah, were captured by the Babylonian, in 597 b.c.e. Israel and Judah were no longer nation until the creation in 1947. Some 2,544 years later.

King Herod ruled Palestine, and several territories, Nazareth at the time of Jesus, was part of Samaria. Hence the name of the peoples Samaritans and Nazareth was part of Herod's Kingdom. (See map)
