I think it was a great joke. My husband, who was an extremely great teacher, would have done something like that to his kids. Although he taught high school English, he did have his students believing he was an alien and that the extendable pointer I gave him was for his communication with his star ship. His kids would often say that they didn't learn anything in Mr. E's classes but his scores were always the top in the school. This story shows a teacher who truly loves his career and his students.

It has been 31 years since I taught history and government but I tried to keep those high school kids' attention with things like this all the time. Even so long after I taught them, some over 60 years ago claim they remember things I taught them that long ago. I bet those kids really were having fun with all that and that they did surely like him as a teacher.
