Having spent nearly 30 years in public education I always read things like this. Back in the early 60s I met a large man who had been hired to teach rebellious students and given powers teachers no longer have. He said he had to physically whip nearly every kid that came to him but it worked. Nothing better than that has showed up since then and we see some really serious results of the Obama administration's attempt to take care of rebellious students that just didn't work. Teachers have been threatened with torture by students who knew they couldn't be removed from school. It is past time for this crap to be stopped in a serious attempt to get kids back to where we want them to be.

we got a whipping or paddling when we were in grade school and we got another when we got home for misbehaving and worked well all through those of us that went through the same type of corporal punishment. We should institute that policy again. I can remember the Catholic kids saying how the Nuns would smack a ruler across there hands for disobeying and we all turned out pretty damned good if you ask me. Did some of the staff abuse this over the years, probably but the pendulum has swung to far to the other side now where Johnny or Suzy can do no wrong and the child is always right.

When I was in grade school, our principle would watch random classrooms through the window in the door, and immediately jerk anyone misbehaving out, and paddle their ass right there in the hallway. It worked, because we all knew it might be any of us next if we acted up in class.
We didn't consider it abuse at all. We knew that if we didn't behave, Mr. Immel would jerk us out of the room, and paint our back porch red. Simple, and effective.

It worked well for our generation and we didn't have any snowflakes either. If you didn't win that meant you lost and you tried harder next time. The same thing in school some students actually failed and had to repeat a grade or two but they learned and persevered and moved forward.

In the 6th grade anyone who misbehaved it was in the hallway (hardwood floors) on you knees, nose against the wall and if he saw you move in anyway smack to the back of the head, most didn't move a 2nd time/

I was called from work to the school once when my son was in 7th grade. There was the principal, a teacher, another parent, a deputy sheriff, and my son in the room with my son looking scared out of his mind. Turns out, my son had given another kid a "purple nurple" in PE class the day before, and the father wanted him arrested. I was given a choice of my son getting 3 swats, or he could be arrested for assault. I said "Beat his ass! Why are you wasting my time with this?" The other "dad" was pissed, because he wanted charges filed!
I was escorted out of the building by the deputy after getting in the other ""dad's" face in the hall, and telling him he was raising a pussy just like himself. Among other things.
The deputy walked me to my truck, and told me that I made the right choice, and he understood my position.
Parents are a huge part of the problem in my opinion.

That sounds like Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo on NCIS.

We had tile floors in the halls, and you could hear the swats echo all up, and down the hall, so everyone knew!

Fully agree. Why couldn't they give your choices on the phone instead of wasting your time. Our kids received 5 wacks i wet bathing suits, we're in Florida and it's always warm enough.

The worst swats that I ever received were on bare buttocks. All I did was use a snap of a towel to relieve another kid of his erection in the shower after PE. I'm still proud of myself for not crying!! The coach was about 5' 8" tall, and wide, and he put a lot of feeling behind those 3 licks!

I left out that I had to sign a form giving them permission to use corporal punishment on him. What a crock!

Those PE teachers were murder. You did good by not crying but I bet it was close whether you did or not.

That's corporal punishment? Wonder what it would considered if someone bled.

In the fourth grade we had a 16 year old incorrigible student who was made to sit directly in front of the teacher, a nun known and feared for her discipline. The 16 year old tied a fly to a string and amusingly the fly flew in tethered circles while the young man made buzzzzzzzing noises along with his captive fly.
The nun leaped off her platform and grabbed the young man by his Diablo hair do and with one punch she knocked out his two front teeth.
The kid started to cry, and she told him that if he didn't shut up she would knock the rest of his teeth out of his mouth.
He graduated with us, not with honors, but the incident straightened him out.
