Tired of Microsoft Windows?

I am. Especially since they made such a mess of Windows 10. There are alternatives. Ubuntu is a Linux based operating system. It's been in development for several years. It's open sourced, which means that anyone with the sk**ls required can help develop it. It's a free download, BTW. If you'd like to try it out before deciding to switch, you can dual boot your system, and use both. It's much more stable than Windows, as well as more secure. Give it a try. What do you have to lose? My dream is to get enough people to switch that it forces Microsoft out of business. I know, it's probably a pipe dream, but it gives me something to look forward to. The only reason Windows is still in business is because there just isn't enough interest in other operating systems. So, why don't you help spread the word? After all, more interest means more development.

I've been running Linux Mint since Microsoft started hounding and threating to upgrade me to windows 10. I have never looked back.
You can down load a linux mint iso cd and run it with out a install and see if you like it.

I believe it's also called Linspire, and I believe the latest version is Cinnamon.. You have to pay for that one, right? I believe you also have to pay a monthly fee in order to run games on that thing. Sounds like a rip off. I'll stick with Ubuntu.

I used to play BoW. Not a bad game. There's another one for android called UniWar. It's a turn based strategy game where position and terrain affect combat. Another one is Plague inc. You play a v***s that is trying to k**l everyone. You mutate and upgrade yourself, while the scientists try to find a cure. It's a blast.

Duh! Windows wh**ever. I am just a user and not a computer Tech, but I say "Use a Mac" (with Apple operating systems.) They are waay more user friendly, I think, especially since that is what I learned on (starting in the 80s) and have mostly used since. My home desktops have always been Mac – I was forced to switch to PC for awhile at work and I do have to use two PC laptops (with company apps not avail. for mac) both with different windows versions, and I have found no matter the version, they were all about the same unfriendliness. Now, MS software: Yes, Windows operating systems suck, but MS Office [for the Mac] is the King, in my opinion, at least for all my work. Albeit, some of the features in older versions have been deleted/or changed undesirably.

You have a very valid point about the revisions, which masquerade as "improvements", but instead remove the functions which made the program valuable in the first place. It isn't just Microsoft that does this, I used Opera as a browser for many years but they kept updating and changing it until now it is a pain in the tukas and I abandoned it. Similarly, a photo viewer/editor called ACD improved itself to the point I can no longer use it to view pictures without struggle. It too is on the trash heap.

Most of the upgrades and improvements baffle me, who needed the new capability and why did they have to discard the stuff that was useful?

Yep. Big time. I used to could do all kinds of stuff with photos. Now they have replaced the apps with 'new and better' stuff that I don't have the foggiest idea how to 'photoshop' stuff, let alone circling something. Also, no more simple dwg. apps (example: Cricket Draw), now the likes of Illustrator. A problem with those older ones is the new systems will not open them so I've lost any way to modify or even use them. Well, actually, the problem is the newer OSs are not compatible with the old apps, even if same company. "New and Improved" anything may be new, but improved is subjective, to say the least - be it a s/w product or soap.

I don't do a lot with a computer, but I'll admit win10 sucks. I think they're all designed with tracking our every move. The best OS windows ever had was 98SE and XP. They should have left XP alone. I'm running win7 professional right now, but microsoft will stop supporting it sometime in 2018.

I am still running XP but I am experiencing increasing difficulty in opening certain websites and even seeing the photos or videos that others are not having difficulty viewing. I attribute it to lack of backwards compatibility.

I set up a second computer with Windows Seven and Red Hat Linux as a dual boot. I h**ed Windows 7 and got tired of playing with Red Hat, programming is a young man's game.
