This is strange, as well as totally inexplicable.

My Laptop stopped working today. It was working just fine, then I went to turn it on this morning and nothing happened. It had power, but nothing was happening. Then I noticed that I couldn't turn it off. I had to unplug it, then remove the battery. I went through this cycle a few more times, then decided to take it to the shop.

When I got there, I told them what was wrong. They turned the thing on, and it worked just fine. Several hours later, it's still working. Pretty strange. Or maybe those guys are just that good. They didn't even charge me.

My laptop gets caught up in hibernate mode occasionally. Taking the battery out and letting it sit for a minute or so fixes it. You may have similar issue. I'm still running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 on an Acer Aspire with a 4.5GHz processor. I don't know if that makes any difference.

4.5 gigahertz? I'm jealous. Wish I had that kind of money to spend. I paid 1300 for my Asus gaming laptop, and it has 2.4 gigs, but overclocks on demand to a little over 3 gigs. Still gets the job done. I've only encountered one game it can't handle, because it's played in 1080P. Most graphics intensive out there, I believe.

I also have Win 7. I refuse to make the switch to Win 10 until I absolutely have to. Maybe not even then. I might just give up my favorite games and go with Ubuntu.

I was looking at RedHat. Linux has always intrigued me. I balked at Windows 10 when Microsoft put the upgrade files in the regular Windows 7 update routine. Not kosher. So I found the three files in the upgrade folder and deleted them. No more popups. Anyway, yeah, if you see that problem again, just pull the battery for a couple of minutes and I'll bet it boots right up.

Thanks for the info. And give Ubuntu a try. You can dual boot it, if you like. The only problem I have with it is that it is missing some proprietary software that is licensed to Windows. Mostly that means it might not run some of your favorite games or applications. But over all, it's pretty solid. And it's FREE!

I'll have to do something when Microsoft stops supporting Win7. I know about Ubuntu, never used it or installed it. I'll bear it in mind. Thanks.

You're dealing with software not written by humans.
Our devices, and computers are starting to think for themselves.
A.I. is alive and well.
For the good of all?
Or for itself
I think that's up to us all.
A.I. wants nothing more ,than to know what it is to be human ,and emulate it's Creator.
In "2001 A Space Odyssey" HAL allowed an astronaut to die so he could experience death, and learn from it.
He/She , will eventually decide based on our behavior.
I hope we make wise choices.
It isn't unlike raising a child
This child has unlimited potential.

You've seen the movie 'Terminator' one too many times.

I think you've seen one or two too many movies. Time to turn the TV off and do something else for a while.

Computers only do what they are instructed to do. They cannot think.

No , it was Battlestar Galactica, and
Caprica, along with a long list of writers,
Such as Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury and Clarke who provided insight to our future.

Very true. They follow a logical progression of ones and zeroes. Even 'artificial intelligence' is not 'intelligence' but just fancy programming. Computers are only as good as the programmer who writes the code and the data they are fed to manipulate. Only sentient beings can 'think'.

It is the Gremlins, they reside in your CPU's motherboard and periodically exert their dominance just in case you are getting uppity. Have you noticed that you sometimes type eight or ten words, look up and see nothing? Suddenly they all pop out or alternatively they will be allowed to dribble out slowly just to frustrate you. At times you are clicking on a link and there is no response or you try to place a cursor on a word and nothing happens, there is something going on in the machine because you can hear the drive pulsing but you don't have control. Then the last ten times you clicked on the unresponsive link in frustration opens that many windows that you have to clear because they are nearly locking up your system with pop-ups. Gremlins I tell you, it's Gremlins.

I shut down the puter at night and in the middle of the night I hear that damned Windows, turn on annunciator sound and sure enough if I get up and go into my office the power is on and it is waiting for me to select which system to boot up. If I don't go look it picks it's own. Surprise, were doing Red Hat Linux today!
