An Oregon man, Daniel Jimenez, has set up a petition at change.org to strip members of the US Congress of their health care coverage, with people like Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and President Trump working hard to strip millions of Americans of theirs. Jimenez lost his father to cancer a few years ago after he waited to long to go to the doctor because he lacked health insurance.

The Petition in part states:

A lot of Members of Congress promote choice as an American value, which is all the more reason for them to have to continue to choose their own health coverage from the free marketplace. If private health care is good for the American citizen, it should also be good for the people that defend it.

If Congress is willing to drastically cut healthcare subsidies for most people, are they willing to have the same rules apply to them and their families?

Jimenez told an Oregon newspaper the following:

Over email, Jimenez told us that the response to his petition, which has garnered over 300,000 signatures in a week “has been amazing.”

“There are also some really sad and scary comments about people needing health insurance because of pre-existing conditions and are fearing for their lives if they lose their health care plan,” he said. “An interesting fact is that people from both side of the political spectrum seem to agree with me about Congress not receiving any special treatment that regular people do not have.”

If the petition receives 500,000 signatures, it will be delivered to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Sen. Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump.

Let me see if I understand Jimenez' issue. His father got sick years ago and died. So now, years after his death, Jimenez is upset with President Trump and Congress. My question, why did he not make this petition years ago? Now to the statement that our President and Congress "is working hard to strip million of Americans of their health-care is inaccurate. It is the obama expansion group which will be affected. Medicaid funding for the so-called “expansion population,” or otherwise able-bodied, non-pregnant adults who qualified by their incomes under the ACA’s new rules. And some have complained that this "expansion" group include every last immigrant, legal or illegal. The new bill does not take coverage away from those people, but it does end what’s called the “enhanced federal medical assistance percentage,” or FMAP, for them, whereby the federal government (more precise, taxpayer) pays the vast majority share of their Medicaid costs. After 2020, states will no longer be allowed to enroll additional expansion adults, though those already covered will be allowed to remain covered if they don’t become ineligible for more than a month. So, if you are one who is in that group, you need to plan ahead....and buy your insurance or go to work for a company that provides health-care in the next three (3), tres, Wahid years. Or you can simply resume overcrowding emergency rooms or skipping out on your doctor's bills. Or you can hitch a ride with ICE back to the border.

Interesting... thanks for the news

Could you imagine what our healthcare and retirement would look like if congress had to live by the same rules we do?
