Some examples of why this is not your parents America.

1. 1958 4% of Americans were ok with interracial marriage.
2013-- 87% ok with a racially mixed marriage (Gallup)

2. Gay Marriage. In 1996-- 27% approved. 2013--53% approved. (ABC-Washington Post)

3. Approval of pre-marital sex: 33%--1969; 2011--71% approval among those 18-34 (Gallup)

4. Belief in evolution: 60% (Pew 2013)

These are profound changes! The progressive thrust of this society is evident in President Obama's e******n, twice. Legalization of gay marriage is rapidly occurring, state by state (last count is 18 states + D.C.)

Legalization of marijuana(either for medicinal or recreational purposes) is happening rapidly state by state, like dominos.

Feedback on these changes???? Please do tell!

I am puzzled why you would bring in the issue of the national debt. The issues raised were about social and intellectual changes, not financial ones.

It has little to do with things like interracial marriage and legalizing pot. Pot was legal for most of this country's history anyway. What we are seeing is the development of an entitlement mentality, an ethos of taking without putting anything back. I******s mow people's lawns today, when Junior High School and High School kids used to do it, instead of sitting on their asses playing video games. There are 3rd and 4th generation welfare recipients who, like their progenitors, have gone their entire lives without a job, or paying a penny of taxes, serving in the military or even graduating from high school, and their v**es count as much as someone who has done these things. Useless drones and functional illiterates electing thieves who promise them the candy store, with no thought of who is going to pay for it. All in the name of some sort of "rights" which are nowhere guaranteed in the Constitution, but these people cannot read, so they cannot figure it out. They believe what they are told.

Brian Devon- 1. Interracial marriage-not a bad thing .
2. Gay marriage-Gays have come out of the closet but now feel entitled to
special treatment because of who they are. Treat them equally but with no
special privileges (Gay Day, etc,). Still not acceptable to many christians-not a good environment in which to raise straight children.
3. Pre-Marital sex- we are inundated with children born out of wed-lock and with single moms who are struggling to survive. These kids deserve a mom and dad but because of promiscuity and lack of morals they are born into a society which tolerates them but leaves them lacking in both supervision a parental love. Not good for the country. 4. Evolution-more people believe in it mainly because the traditional families are attracted to the wild side of life as opposed to the wise side of life. Young people have broken away from traditional churches and replaced them with penny arcades, parks, pot parties, and alcohol. As a result, their children follow in their footsteps and God is pushed aside only to be called one in time of dire need. As an example, if man evolved from the ape, why did stop there and man not evolve into something else and why is the ape still around ? Creationism makes more sense than evolution - why is the pig still a pig, or the dog still a dog. Because God made them that way.
I would rather believe in God and find out at the end of life that he does not exist as opposed to not believing and find out upon death that he does exist. Your choice !! Good Luck America !!!

I guess I am curious what people think, who have not been vetted by the MSM, nor established political websites. I have been reading letters to the editor since I was about 8. I would discuss these issues with my wife but she does not like discussing politics. I know there are many who prefer not to discuss politics, nor cultural issues. That's why I come to a site like OPP. I try be respectful (mostly) and not ridicule others beliefs...but sometimes it is hard to resist. Peace and a happy Jan. 2 to you!

You gave a very well thought out response. The one thing I would comment on is this. Evolutionary theory teaches that humans and apes had a common ancestor (who is no longer with us). The theory actually doesn't say that man evolved from the current apes, with whom we share this planet.

Interracial marriage is ok, as long as it is a happy, loving union.
2, 3, and 4 are all detirmined by one's faith, and personal beliefs. I say no.

I have an issue with the legalization of pot by the states only because It is just 1 more federal lawt that Eric Holder's doj refuses to enforce. Hypocracy. Legalization will take money from the cartels and put it into our economy.

Very succinct. I agree with your last sentence about marijuana legalization taking money from the cartels and putting it in our economy. Its similar to the repeal of prohibition when liquor distribution was removed from the gangsters and it could be taxed for the common good.
