On US Military Spending

"Donald Trump has called for eliminating the sequester on defense spending and increasing military spending to boost troop levels and the number of ships and aircraft.

Trump said in a speech to the Union League of Philadelphia that he will ask Congress to reverse cuts to defense spending enacted under the 2013 budget sequester once he takes office and submit a new budget to rebuild the US military, which Trump described as unprepared to confront the threats the US faces." http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/06/politics/donald-trump-defense-spending-sequester/index.html

While every American would probably agree that our country should have a military capable of defending itself, the question now becomes "how much is enough". Lets take a graphic look at what we currently spend (2014) on military expenditures vs. other countries.

All of you have probably heard the term "Guns vs. Butter". The fact is that every dollar we spend making a nuclear missile, or building a new aircraft carrier, is one dollar less than can be spent on roads, bridges, improving our power grid against EMP's, and bringing good paying manufacturing jobs back to this country, even if the higher cost of labor results in a slightly higher product cost to the consumer.

The fact is we already have 10,000 nuclear missiles. Do we need more? Do we need need additional naval battle groups around the world, or are we tired of all the spending that it takes to be the world's policeman? Do we need the 100+ military bases around the world, or would half that number be adequate to protect our nation. Do we need to spend the billions of dollars spying on every other nation in the world, and every US Citizen?

Google "Pentagon wasted spending projects" and you will find numerous examples of how your tax dollars are spent on insanely wasted, and expensive programs that fatten the profits of defense contractors, but do little to improve the defense of this country. https://mic.com/articles/74159/5-insanely-wasteful-projects-the-pentagon-is-spending-your-money-on#.XS7VsVUdh

It is time for the American public to demand its government to be held accountable to the people, and to put an end to the campaign contributions and lucrative consulting jobs given to retired politicians overseeing these expensive boondoggles, and refuse to close outdated expensive bases simply because it is in their congressional district.

When is enough enough? When you are a fear monger the answer is never. Consider that conservatives see no legitimate use for government other than protection so questions on expenditures other than the military really are moot. I appreciate your attempt to start dialogue but with the cons on this board even a budget with 100% dev**ed to military spending wouldn't be enough.
