According to reports, legendary Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dave Edwards passed away today at the age of 77.
A member of the "Doomsday Defense," Edwards played for the Cowboys from 1962-1975.
Edwards was born December 14, 1939, in Abbeville, Alabama. He was an outstanding two-way player at end for Auburn University during the 1959, 1960 and 1961 seasons.
Edwards, also known as "Fuzzy," was plucked by the Denver Broncos in the 25th round of the 1962 AFL Draft, however, he decided to sign with Dallas as a free agent where Edwards was converted to outside linebacker. Here with his quickness and aggressiveness, he became a very valuable member of the famous "Doomsday Defense" and was annually around the top of the list of pass interception leaders among the linebackers, according to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.
He starred for the Cowboys for 12 seasons during Dallas' glory years. Edwards played on three conference championship teams and participated in three Super Bowls winning the title in 1971, Super Bowl VI, when Dallas beat Miami 24-3.
Along with Lee Roy Jordan and Chuck Howley, they made up one of the greatest linebacking corps in NFL history.
Edwards was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.

His home is filled with memorabilia, so I suspect there are a few photos of your "9ers" included among them. He & I spent many a time talking about the earlier days of the NFL...the sixties and seventies, primarily. He played with and against many an NFL-great.

I remember him well. A class act and he will be surely missed. He ranks up there with Tom Landry and other guys who bat in that league.

I just wonder though about pro foot ball
doesn't look like the retirees live very long
Edwards prolly lasted longer than most
