Thanks for the walk down memory lane. But you forgot you could walk all over town at night and not be afraid running barefoot through the grass standing in the mud and feeling the mud it felt great and nobody got mad. Nobody ever locked their door to the house. I could keep going todays kids AND their parents don't know what they missed how sad.

No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?
Lying on your back in the grass with your friends and saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a...'?
Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game?
Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?
And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today.
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home?
Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.
...as well as summers filled with bike rides, Hula Hoops, and visits to the pool, and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar.
Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say 'Yeah, I remember that'?

I can relate to most all those with the exception of TV. We didn't have TV during my youth. We had radio.

Yeah I remember all these things. Too bad things have changed So much. Now I'm feeling kinda ancient, especially since my birthday is on Monday.
On the other hand it's nice to know I've made it this far.
I wonder what the kids today will look back and remember...?

All the "progress" made since those simpler times, supposedly making our lives easier, has taken the real fun out of life. The result has been skyrocketing diabetes, heart disease, drug addiction, clinical depression and myriad other woes. An absolute boon for corporations - and a curse on the people. Who enjoys their ride to work anymore? No one, they stress about traffic, traffic lights, rude drivers, getting to work on time and many other things. No one takes the time to enjoy the simpler things in life, assuming one can find any, because our lives have become so convenient - we just don't have time for it.

I can remember every one of them thanks.
This article certainly brought back many memories. Getting home from school, going outside to play and being called in when supper is ready. No books, no homework. We got to play!!! Being 80 is a gift and a chance to remember!!
