I find it d********g that we even validate the UN by being members, by supporting it, by relinquishing our sovereignty to a bunch of rag-tag socialists and international terrorists.
Many of us on the political right have been calling for the US to drop UN membership, kick the UN out of our country, stop paying good money into it, and tell the UN to "get lost" and stay out of our lives. IT NEEDS US. We do not need it. If the political left can forcefully push us into going along with their plans, it won't be long until our sovereignty is gone, we will no longer be slightly free, we will be living under archaic Marxist rule, and the only happy people will be those who are the dictators.
Why do you suppose Obama was seated as our "President"? I say it was to goose step us into the UN's hands by breaking our backs, our monetary system, our way of life. In that respect, he's succeeding. Knowledgeable Americans won't let that happen without a fight. The scarey part is that so many Americans are no longer knowledgeable. Sad.
No wonder. They have been indoctrinated by the public school system for many years, dumned down to accept all forms of socialism.
The United Nations will prove to be the worst mistake Ike ever made.
There is so much wrong with the last three posts, I don't know where to start.
I will only give one example of the good the NU has done.
In 1962, it gave the US a place to confront the USSR over Cuba. It gave a platform to speak from. If things had gone much farther, the nukes would have been flying, and none of us would be here.
Does the UN do things I would prefer they did not, YES, but on the whole they are a plus.
Let us sweeten the pot by building the UN a new HQ building in Somalia, Ethiopia or some neat country in Africa. We could use the UN bldg in US as home for the homeless or wh**ever.
The confrontation was properly made on the atlantic ocean by blockading Cuba and inspecting Russian ships. Those ships that contained missles turned around and went back to Russia.
The U.N. was never cosulted and rightly so.

Let me get this straight. Are you saying that without the daunted United Nations, we could not have confronted the USSR over Cuba? That the USA could not have found a way to communicate with Russia?
Did you live under the same rock during the Cold War as you currently live under?
Tasine:
What I am saying is, that things got very close to getting out of control, and having the UN to act as a relief valve, allowing everyone a place to piss on the other guy, without really doing anything.
