But, I did call 911 and my son had to tell the rescue team that appeared at our door where he was hurting. Yes, I had a $600 bill, but it was worth it! I have never seen him so lost for words, because as he was trying to say he was okay, the young woman had already gotten his shirt off and was poking his stomach. She had a tourniquet out to do a blood draw....scared the.... well, out of him. From that point on he was sure to answer my questions. The other son, he was with me in the car and down in the chin, so I was trying to find out what was troubling him. I asked about his girlfriend and he groaned. I was near hospital, so I pulled in. He asked me why, and I explained the meaning and the urgency of a groan.

I do volunteer tutoring in "Language Arts". It is that time of school year where papers, tests, etc. are prevalent. The Department of unEducation obviously has no interest in this topic. The proof is in my students.

My question is what are the basic eight parts of speech.

BANJOJACK AND OLDGRINGO MAY NOT RESPOND :!: :!: :!: I know you two know them.

I don't know them. I did elementary school in Australia and they only speak English there, not American. I get confused between the two.

Parts of speech are parts of speech. Do they construct their sentences differently in Aussie land?

It only takes an intelligent person with a computer about 20 seconds to answer that question!

To some degree, we may disagree on one subject. If our students could learn grammar, spelling, reading, etc., I would have no problem giving up cursive. There are just some battles worth losing to win the war.

As of now, we appear to have lost both. If we got rid of the Department of unEducation (Edumakashun?) and began teaching 1st graders properly, we might salvage something. I think that adults currently are a lost cause, judging by the amount of spelling errors alone I see every day. How the hell can you misspell that many words with spell check? Your computer does your thinking for you and you STILL screw it up?

Depending upon your computer. My new laptop has no "spell check" function as yet. Being cheap, we downloaded a free word processing system; however, it does not interface with my online communications on websites. My iPad does interface.

Some of us don't require spell check. We could, however, probably derive some benefit from modesty lessons.

Intelligent people didn't have to look up the answer. Rather, I should say, educated people. Some intelligent people have not had an opportunity to acquire a real education, as opposed to what passes for one in publick skools theez dais.

There is no intelligence in that. I was trying to remember something I did 40 years ago as a challenge. I thought about it all night as I only got 7 of them. I think I missed pronoun.

A good point. It would be great if our kids could sign their names so one could read them, learn to fill out forms so one could read them, even a readable job application would be met with meaningful descriptions.
Your point is well taken. I just wonder where we are going when educators suggest a depletion of basic life sk**ls.
