If what I read is the complete story, I say punish the bullies and leave this girl alone! We are all unique and that is what makes each person so beautiful! I understand the need for dress codes, I understand that there are times when those codes must be adhered to for the sake of safety (like not wearing rings when working on machines) or have a hair style that may get hung up in a machine, or a long beard that could shed into food...., but this is a young lady in school with none of the aforementioned issues to worry over. She simply has some wild and "different" hair! For the sake of all that is holy, we can not manage every facet of everyone's lives. Nor should we try.
I do take issue with one sentence of this article, I do not believe it has anything to do with her hair not looking "white enough" because only 38% of the children attending this school is white.
http://www.greatschools.org/florida/orlando/4212-Faith-Christian-Academy/#!/programs-resources/Programs_table There are many issues, such as this that people try to label as a black/white racial issue when in fact it is about hair, wild and unique hair; it is not always about race.
She should follow the rules.

Guy, if hairstyle was a written rule, then I would agree. But, doing research into this establishment, I did not find a rule that read the hair must conform to..... The second thing, she has always had wild and crazy hair and has attended this school from the first grade with her wild hair. It is only this year, when others started bulling her that it became an issue. The focus should be on bulling and the stance the school takes on such activities. Once a bully is allowed to get away with their actions, it emboldens them. Deal with the bullies and then write a clear and concise dress code that is mandated to all students regardless of color and make the new rules applicable to the beginning of the next school year to give opportunities to parents who disagree an opportunity to voice those disagreements or find other arrangements.
The schools policy and treaemt of the child is rediculous. If in fact this is accurate. Hard to believe anything the liberal media trumpets as a cause. Case in point the poor victimized lesbian waitress that said she was not tipped and left a nasty note due to her sexual orientation. The liberals jumped all over this one. Turns out she lied. She was tipped 18 bucks on a 92 dollar tab. The fact is this story does not represent Christians or conservatives. I'm only the latter and I think the kid is beautiful and her hair as well. I guess laws that give little Johnny the right and special protection to come on sexually to Joey in public schools are acceptable to liberals who want to grant special rights to their oppressed flavor of the day special interest group.

"The second thing, she has always had wild and crazy hair and has attended this school from the first grade with her wild hair." That is what I thought reading the article the first time but in re-reading it, the article twice makes the point she has had that hairstyle "the whole year," not the whole time at that school.

I guess I am missing your point. Are you saying that she should or should not cut/straighten/better manage her hair? What about the bullies. Should her hair be the issue or the bullies? The school handbook reads: "must be a natural color and must not be a distraction, reads the schools student handbook. Hairstyles like mohawks, rat tails and shaved designs are forbidden." I see nothing about "natural" hair.
Bullies, whether they are on line bullies, school yard bullies, or those out to relieve boredom by "playing" games that are vicious attacks, MUST BE DELT WITH SWIFTLY.

My point was that if she had had that hairstyle since the first grade, as you said, then the action by the school was de facto wrong and wholly arbitrary: no excuse or possible explanation for their actions. As this is not the case, the situation needs more scrutiny. Claiming she has had that hairdo since first grade totally alters the case and leads to instant judgment of wrongdoing by the school.

Okay my friendly troll, put a check mark on your side. This is not whether or not she was bullied but a matter of how long she has worn her hair style.
Regardless, the school has now withdrawn their threat to expel her due to said hairstyle, and therefore the implications is they saw their mistake. They have also announced a "No Bulling Policy." Therefore implying that their original position on condoning bulling to be in error.
I now see how important it is for you to always get a "one up" on wh**ever I say. I am sure you feel much better now. Do have a good Thanksgiving.

1. troll
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=trollMy comment was simply a friendly correction of your misstatement about how long she had that hairstyle, which is in no way is "a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument." As you conceded you were wrong on this particular point, the troll comment of yours about me better suits the definition.
The article seemed to be making a number of incendiary assumptions and its basic slant seemed intended to rile up some of those on the Left that find Christians and Conservatives to be r****t and h**ers. Adding an accidental piece of misinformation, as you did, incidentally made a pirma facie case against the school. thus a cause to end debate and not further investigate.
Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you my friendly Troll and yes, the term does fit you quite well. This is a title that you have earned and now that you have, wear it as a badge that depicts your disposition when it comes to me. You once accused me of stalking you, seems funny when each time I submit a comment you follow up with some critique of me rather than the point of the posting or thread. Is this the definition of a stalker? Cyber bully? Or just someone who knows everything about everyone and is god-like?

Lol, ginnyt: "once accused me of stalking you." I specifically stated that you were NOT one of the stalkers; you do this kind of thing a lot.
"... seems funny when each time I submit a comment you follow up with some critique of me rather than the point of the posting or thread." Another funny joke and what is commonly used by politicians: accuse the other side of doing what their own side is doing. My point was not about you as a person, if you will please re-read all my comments, but concerned the accuracy of what was written in the article: that is staying on topic. I did not insult or call you any names: I made it clear several times that your comment was accidental, simply an honest mistake: is that in some way bullying to you?
Ginnyt, if anyone had made a mistake on facts, and especially people like yourself who are usually so careful, I would have done the same. Methinks you are being a little paranoid. Again, leave this endless circular debate and relax and eat hearty.
