Those terrible and abusive years of my childhood

Riding a bike with my friends without head protection.

Going to the playground alone at seven.

Given sweets as a treat.

Riding in the back of a pickup truck with friends and ungirdled.

Sitting on my big brother's lap in the front seat of our family car to the nearby store.

Fireworks.

Irish block parties.

Playing in the mud.

Crap apple fights.

A whack on the butt for being disobedient.

The horrors are endless, such as being made to apologize to my teacher for a lack of homework.

What terrible abuse!
I don't know how I survived climbing every tree and tasting every beautiful mud pie that I created.
I had my own personal paddle and it was used frequently.
And if I got paddled at school, another was coming at home.
Getting no mercy for the tummy ache because I ate too many crab apples.
I see you just joined us.
Welcome, Ms.

Yes the 50's were rot with dangers and our evil parents encouraged
us to do these things. Ha Ha , that's gone at long last . How did we make it.
Couldn't have been just dumb luck !!

A teacher not knowing that it is a scientific fact, part of Evolutionary theory, that the wolf was first domesticated and later trained to obey by Neanderthals by using their kids homework, usually etched in a side of beef, as encouragement and reward. This memory became over time instinctual, part of the basic behavior of dogs.

I remember the hill being steep both ways but not so steep on the way home and really, really steep to school.

It is a shame what we lost. Everything is regulated now. Lemonade stands need EPA approval, tax forms, and inspections by the government. We lost a great deal in 60 years.
