WWII ended with the Japanese signing the terms of surrender on the U.S.S. Missouri in 1945. This allowed my Dad and many others to finally return home...alive. The U.S. Treasury was founded in 1789. Teddy Roosevelt first publicly spoke the phrase 'Speak softly, and carry a big stick,' at the Minnesota State Fair, 1901. And, General William Tecumseh Sherman occupied Atlanta, 1864, prior to his infamous 'march to the sea.'
You saved me the trouble; I overslept. One of my uncles was a Marine in the Pacific Theater. He was at Saipan.
It should be noted that Sherman refused to use black troops in his army. He was not really against s***ery, per se, as long as "humane conditions" applied.
In spite of Teddy's popularity, it must be remembered that his Bull Moose Party ended up inflicting Woodrow Effing Wilson on the United States.
