I was leaving the Walmart yesterday, and I saw a security guard at the exit. I got his attention, and asked him why he h**ed himself. With a puzzled expression, he told me he didn't. So I asked him why he was a security guard. He laughed, and said good point.

It's kind of a inside joke. If you've ever worked private security, you'd understand.

I was in no danger. I know the guy. Talked to him a few times. He knew that I also worked security at one time. He has a kid on the way, and is looking for a better job. Security doesn't pay sh*t. The only way to make a living wage is to work yourself to death. Shoot. At one point, I was only home two days a week, because I worked so much. I actually canceled the rent on my apartment and lived out of my car. Why pay for something you don't use? But I was making some really good money. For a while, I was making over 1,000 a week.

I totally understand. I went into the Peace Corps in West Africa and afterward I stayed there and worked as an Engineer building two sugar plantations. It was an awesome job. When I returned to the U.S. I thought my resume would open any door. I couldn't find a job because I made too much money and I was over qualified for every job. I took a job as a bank guard for $0.15 over minimum wage. The First National Bank of Arizona no longer exists. However the building was also owned by the bank and we were security for the entire building. During the day we were Bank Guards, at night we had to go into every room of the building and check for coffee pots left on, a fire hazard. A week on each of the three rotating eight hour shifts. Bank guard during the day and building security at night. We carried guns that required a state license. The job got me through a hard time and I was thankful for it. You adjust your life to match your circumstances.
