Genocide, stoning, burning alive, destroying the earth: a loving God?
Either reject the OT as a poor and flawed approximation of God, or die a fool. There are no other choices...if you believe in a truly loving God. The true love of God is revealed (the meaning of Apocalypse) in the NT, through the words and actions of Christ. This is not to say that the OT has nothing to offer, yet wh**ever it offers can only be seen through the lens of the NT. If this were not true, we would as a people would still embrace s***ery and genocide as righteous.
The Old Testament has nothing to do with Christianity. Christianity is based on what the Christ taught which is very different than what can be found in the Old Testament.
You will find Jesus promoted quite the opposite of those things.

Okay. Tell that to the vast majority of Christians: they will not respond well.

I know, but a far greater percentage of non-Christians can't seem to understand that fact even after it's explained. Blame it on the Nicaean council.
