Ravel and Claude did not agree with the "thinkers" discussions of their work.

I find them both interesting, talented, and unknown. To me, they actually represent the decline into modernism, as I'd put it, of music. They chose to experiment.

I read once that Ravel was challenged by another composer to create a musical work based on a single theme. And that exhausts my musical expertise!!

Dancing is more in line with my advocacies. One of the performing arts.

Bolero falls into that single theme category even if there are variations within. Beethoven practiced much the same, but it's not obvious.

Beethoven is OK?? Yes, he was, but much more difficult to dance to.

I like his "Fur Elise".

Me too. That and Moonlight Sonata are a couple of my favorites.

For a long and ignorant time, I pronounced it Fur Delise.

At one time I could play large portions of them both on piano. I can't read music for piano but I have a good ear and can usually hit thing pretty accurately by ear.

I like the Moonlight Sonata too.

I read somewhere that the Elise in "Fur Elise" was patterned after Heloise and Abelard. But I haven't been able to find it lately.

Maybe so. It's passionate music. Unless played by one with all the sensitivity of a road mender!
