Loki, the most significant occurrence of August 16th, 1969 was my return from Viet Nam. That, and my kid sister got married the afternoon before my arrival at Houston International Airport that evening. I'm still here, and they're still married

My cousin shipped out to 'Nam about that time. I remember he came back in '70.

By the way, we are glad you made it back. Too many did not. Both of my cousins came back, only to die of Agent Orange caused Leukemia. Another friend of mine was wounded, sent to Okinawa, then back to 'Nam, where he got caught in the periphery of a Claymore detonation. Right now Alan has more metal in his body than the Bionic Man. He's a real hoot at airports and courthouses.

Thank you. I forgave my sister and her new husband for not being with the rest of the Family to meet me at the arrival gate that night. They apparently had another matter with which to deal.

I deal with Agent Orange problems daily, with the likely prospect of more to come. But, they are being managed.

Gosh, by that time I was married and helping raise 4 stepchildren, aged 4-12, while working full time as a registered nurse.

I had finished drivers education and got my daylight drivers license. I Idaho you can drive at age 14. I was 15 at the time. That was cool. I drove the hell out of my dads 68 dodge dart till school started and I went back to Oregon and couldn't drive there. I had all the Woodstock albums on 8 track and got to play them in my first hotrod. A 37 Ford sedan. By 1972 when I graduated Viet Nam was still going and some of my class mates were drafted before they graduated. They finished school and went straight to basic training. I enlisted later that summer. President Nixon signed the moratorium on Dec 8 1972 while I was still in Basic training. No body believes me but I saw 5000 men start crying when we were brought together and it was announced that we did not have to go. I still think of my friends who did not make it and of those who came back crazy and maimed.
