Who hasn't loved a bug ? A VW Bug that is.
That is awesome.
I had a 1960 VW Bus full camper while in college at CPSLO (68 to 72).
It was nick named the Velvet Bus by the school newspaper.
I've had four Beetles and one super Beetle. Great little cars that basically required nothing but gas.
Had to watch the points gap and valve gaps a lot. Burned valves. I had to rebuild or change engines at least 4 times.
1200, 1500, and 1600CC. Rebuilt the first one in JC auto class.
The added weight didn't help.
I miss it.

Love my 2008 R32, in blue.
Great car for cross country travel and grocery getter and track as well.
Prefer it over our Mercedes Benz, and it costs more than twice as much as the R32.
I bought a 2012 passat new . Loaded and still love it. Not one problem.

$790 recently to replace a headlight motor.
The R32 has headlights that follow the road up and down hills and around corners exactly where you need the lights to be.
But $790?
Them thar doohickies ain't supposed ta do dat .
Turnin on they own like dat . Dang german

Of course,
But dat kraut burner been good till now.
I bought a 1966 VW square back wagon,Neat car, plenty of room to get laid.....
Valves were the only draw back I can think of. I rarely needed anything else beyond
the little tool kit provided. Amazing little cars.
I remember doing the valves religiously . Wasn't it the number 3 cylinder that ran hot ?

My R 32 doesn't have a honeymoon suite in the back. Open the hood and you see a flat surface which screams "you need a VW mechanic"
Those have got to be fun to drive.
While comparing various makes and models I wanted to enjoy
the road and have lots of functionality . I selected the passat sel premium .
I test drove the one I bought and I was immediately impressed .
Not race ready but with low wide profiles , 285 hp injected V-6 , paddle shifters
and wet dual clutch t****y it was all I needed. I wanted the injection verse the turbo
to say goodby to turbo lag. With all this I get 30-32mpg on the highway. Can't snibble .
Heck I've even hauled lumber in mine. The rear seats fold down so I've hauled
some amazing stuff in it. Very well engineered car. To much road noise is all I've found wrong
with it and I've fixed that. Smooth sailing now. Other than cars I can not afford I
can't think of anything else I'd rather drive.
To bad VW pulled that dirty diesel trick. 5 billion in fines. Huge loss in U S sales. Depreciated
value on their products across the board . It's a shame. They will have to make up a lot
of ground and you know what that means. Corner cutting in manufacturing , increased prices
for replacements parts etc.

I'm proud of VW for tricking the emissions test.
That is good engineering that extends to all parts of the car.
I got a thank you note for my letter of support for VW.
I'm waiting for a 6 cylinder R series to replace mine. I don't want a turbo 4.
...or, just piss off my heirs and buy a Porsche.
Opt for the Porsche.
They can make and or find their own way.
