North Carolina has always been A good place to be... With a round a 50/50 split Demos and Repubs we have always worked things out so all could live together... until the redistricting of 09 allowing the onslaught of republican and tea party officials in 2010 and now the clean sweep with our new republican governor. So no big deal... I v**e republican and so do most of my buds.... We won... or did we?.... Most of my buddies are x Marines from Camp Lejeune or the Naval Air Station at Cherry Point ... In the past year almost everyone I know has been busted for DUI... I don't mean drunk driving.... I am talking a fraction over the limit or at the limit.... Seems the younger guys that still go out to the beach bars for a few beers at night are getting nailed from state trooper and local police road blocks on the bridges that run out to the barrier beaches...If you haven't been drinking they will detain you and search your car for any violation of law they can find. One of my boys was stopped and blew under the legal limit and was detained, cuffed and driven to the county sheriffs office 8 miles away to retest...leaving a girl who didn't drive alone on the road side at 12;00 at night in his car... He retested under the limit... was released with no ride back to his car. WTF... is this the new America? or is it just in North Carolina?

They used to do the same thing here. The community got mad about it and made their voice heard. I haven't seen a
check point here in quite awhile. The planned checks are also posted on the local Sheriff's web site, so everyone knows where they are planned, the time and the date. We sure don't see very many arrest here for DUI anymore.

It is our glorious new Socialist police state at work.

People aren't going to wake up in time before this s**t really gets bad. And people wonder why firearm sales are going up...

Arrested well over 500 DUIs. DUI is commonly called "drunk driving" but .08 is a long way from being drunk for most people. So, I suggest abstaining from drinking AND driving altogether especially at night.
Too harsh? Think about your friends who were arrested. They thought that they were okay to drive but the law had a different opinion. Now their new insurance rate (if they can find insurance) is going to be sky high for years to come. It just ain't worth it.
Highest reading I ever witnessed for one of my DUI arrests was .48...2nd highest was .41. I know it sounds unfair, but they got the same fine as a .10 which was the limit when I was on the streets. BTW, your body is in danger shutting down at .32.
Now this is important! An officer can't search your vehicle w/o your permission if you are NOT under arrest. Simply say "no" if asked. There are things officers look for at the time a stop is made. One secret I'll give you....only one...write this down so you can tell your friends...THE ASHTRAY in the vehicle is usually wide open. By shinning a light into it while standing outside the car the officer can readily see marijuana roaches inside the ashtray. The solution is to never smoke weed in your car or in the car of others. Why mess up their life?
If you'd like other tips just PM me.

In my state you cannot be pulled over without " probable cause ", however, probable cause can be anything. My police friends say that they are looking for " tells ". Older guy, younger girl - tell. Driving at exact speed limit - tell. Pissed off at wife - make up a tell. Hung over - f&%k a tell.
Police are increasingly hostile to everybody because they're SCARED! Death is just one car away.

Well if things aren't bad now it probably won't be your state's laws that'll be enforced but maybe an international law...

http://www.conservative-daily.com/2013/11/12/holder-international-law-trumps-the-constitution/

Just figured I stick this one out there.

I followed a car with 3 white males at 2 AM one morning. I had a feeling they were nervous...sat ramrod straight, drove 5 mph under the speed limit and did so after all three spotted me failing in behind them. You're right about needing PC to stop a vehicle...been that way since the late 70's. I noticed that every time their vehicle passed under a street light that the windshield would reveal a very noticeable crack. AHA, got you. Turns out they had just committed a residential burglary. Their defense attorney demanded to know why I had stopped his clients. "What probable cause did you have, Officer?" It was his Perry Mason moment...a loophole in the law that would free all 3.
I pointed out that it was unlawful to drive with cracked windshield. I also advised that I wrote a separate traffic citation along with the criminal charges. "And what was the result of that traffic case (in traffic court)?" I replied that the driver failed to appear and was found guilty. Of course, I didn't mention in traffic court that cited driver was in the city jail unable to make bond at the time the traffic case was heard. Tough luck, life in the big city...I guess
So you think cops are scared to make traffic stops? Take it from a retired cop who was shot inside my patrol car. I always expected the unexpected while making a stop...and I stopped thousands of vehicles mostly between the hours of 11 pm-7 am in a one man car. Part of the job. I had 3 close friends shot while making stops. One didn't survive.

Yep, just relocated from DC to Greenville NC area. Got a long time friend/friends that live on OBX. They say an article was written in the local papers a while back, stating local law municipalities will aggressively patrol in the evenings to combat intoxicated drivers and drug smugglers. They actually said they would push the issue to the point that it may seem civil rights are being violated.
Just a heads up. In take lightly in bars in Eastern NC, if you have a lot, sit and listen to the radio in passenger seat for an hour or 2. I cannot stand the sensationalism of DUI and DWI, more people are k**led by texters and callers, eaters and readers than drunks, so lets no forget about others that are k**led by non drunks, those vics matter too. Plus alcohol is legal, so MADD should just try to ban alcohol. I got stopped at a VA checkpoint once sober as a judge, and they insisted I had been drinking, luckily a drunk turn around on the median before the checkpoint so they all took off after them. The MADD ladies were the only people left at the checkpoint, glaring at me assuming I was drunk . I sat there for 40 minutes waiting for them to come back, because they had my drivers license. It was ridiculous.

I got stopped in AR because they " couldn't read my plate ", it was perfectly legible. They asked to search my truck and I said " sure ", nothing found so they brought a dog in, nothing found. I spent 1 and a half hours there. After no contraband was found they tried to prove my license was f**e and I live here! I still don't know what bug got up heir ass that day.

I am new at this site so I am just going to come out and say what I have to say. The gentleman who posted the article above North Carolina Blue sky's are clouding up, in reference to the Police and State Troopers cracking down with road blocks to check for Drunk Drivers and then if a driver is found not to be drunk their liberties are being infringed upon by illegal searches of the vehicle and in the case of the one individual being taken in leaving his girlfriend who could not drive stranded in the car, then after being retested and blew a negative was released to find his own way back to his car. Have you addressed this on the Governors Face Book Site, he has one, it is called Veterans for Pat McCrory, I would strongly suggest that you post your article and circumstances on his face book site and see what response you get. What you are describing use to take place a lot here in Fay, NC around Ft Bragg,

Thanks to all for the info .... Latest story from coffee with the boys this morning... Young GI pulled for failure to dim his head lights... blew under the limit... officer asked to search car... GI said no... Was asked to stand outside car wile a K9 dog was brought in... dog singled.... officers searched car and found some pot seeds and twigs in the back carpet... He was arrested and charged .... he got a warning ticket for the lights... Now I do not condone anything illegal but this is hard core zero tolerance attack on the young... they know where the boys go to play... beach.. d**g strips... mud bogs... concerts.... sporting events... It was not like this when I was young.

Yeah, and all the text and drivers out there. How do you profile for that? Pull over every other vehicle?

With the murders increasing overall, I would not care to be a cop these days. The law protects the criminal. A law should be for a cops safety. I think, a law, that would save many lives would be, whenever a cop pulls a driver over, he should set up straight at the seat, place both hands, on top of the steering wheel, until the officer tells him, to take them down. This way, the officer would not, be as afraid, to approach a driver, whereas he could observe his hands, as he approaches his auto. This should apply, to passenger, on the other side, hands on dash. Riders in back seat, hands on back of front seat.

If you're talking about N. Carolina...there is nothing socialist about it. The GOP has pretty well taken over and now North Carolinians who are the wrong color, g****r, or age are finding a no holds barred v**er suppression bill passed by the North Carolina legislature. The majority, the GOP is composed of birthers, men who want to control women's bodies, Tea Partyers, and quite a few likely r****dos but there sure are no Socialists doing this.
