New Black Panther Party says to carry arms in Cleveland if legal

July 12 (Reuters) - The chairman of the New Black Panther Party, a "black power" movement, said his group will carry arms for self-defense during protests at the Republican convention next week if allowed under Ohio law.

"If it is an open state to carry, we will exercise our second amendment rights because there are other groups threatening to be there that are threatening to do harm to us," Hashim Nzinga, chairman of the New Black Panther Party, told Reuters in an interview.

"If that state allows us to bear arms, the Panthers and the others who can legally bear arms will bear arms."

Nzinga condemned the k*****g of five police officers in Dallas last week as a "massacre" and said his group played no role in the attack.

Officials in Ohio have said it will be legal for protesters to carry weapons at demonstrations outside the convention under the state's "open carry" laws. Several other groups, including some supporters of presumptive Republican p**********l nominee Donald Trump, have said they will carry weapons in protests as well, leading to concerns about rival groups being armed in close proximity.

Nzinga said he expected "a couple hundred" members of the New Black Panther Party to join a black unity protest that is scheduled to be held on Thursday in Cleveland. (Reporting By Ned Parker; Editing by David Rohde and Stuart Grudgings)

Considering they really have no business being there, other than to start trouble, if even one occurrence happens, they should be deemed a terrorist group, as they are trying to instill fear against others just like they did in Philly during the e******ns w/ baseball bats.

All individuals going to Ohio, white or black, pro Trump or anti-Trump, must remember that if they are armed, and are acting aggressively toward police or other civilians, or armed near someone seemingly aggressive, they are subject to being shot by those police who are charged with protecting the people of Ohio. It won't be rubber bullets or teargas either, but lead bullets.

I'm a legal gun owner, and I can legally carry a firearm in every state of the US, but unless I was only a distant observer, and certainly not a protestor nor anywhere near the protestors, would I have a gun on my person where some fool on either side could start a shootout with the police. If you're laying on the ground assuming ambient air temperature, near a r**t, and have a gun on your body, no one is going to question why you are dead, or if your death was justified.

what is considered acting aggressive? possession? that alone tend to get black men k**led so that is why we are where we are. I'm sure no one is scared to die so that is why they embark upon these journey's...a true patriot is willing to die for what they believe in and that is what America is starting to witness. Hey, Trump wants everyone to carry so I don't see what the problem would be. There are dangerous people out there and you never know when one of them's going to go off--we need guns for our safety. If everyone carried we all would be so afraid of each other to do anything wrong!!!

Those members of the New Black Panthers going to Cleveland are no more related to patriots than a bunch of KKK members showing up at a Obama Muslim Prayer Meeting with guns and rope.

The armed Black Panther members are trouble makers wishing to intimidate people, and hopefully disrupt a peaceful political meeting.

They are going to Cleveland armed and wanting trouble, but they might get far more trouble than they bargained for, especially if some fool throws a few rounds toward the police. As far as whether or not they are scared to die, unless you've been on the receiving end of live fired ammo, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yep....as a Texan...and a civil, scholarly one...I understand the concept that an armed society is a polite society...look up the "deterrent effect"..and it talks about how many get to be unarmed because they jhave checks and balances around them. It is like when I'm in Texas around my good friends...I carry my heat in the trunk but know I don't really need it.

This is right in line with Republican dogma, well armed patriots exercising their second amendment rights. For wh**ever reason right wing nutters have had and are now realizing a long held dream of turning our entire nation into a big armed camp. To what end is the question? If it is to enhance safety as many claim why not carry a fire extinguisher, portable defibrillator or fanny pack first aid kit. The t***h is that for most of them carrying guns is nothing but store bought machismo for insecure failures and has little with any real need to defend themselves. A well armed society is not polite, it is paranoid dysfunctional and often deadly.
