Who's the Sick One?

After the attempted assassination of Pres. Ronald Reagan, Dan Rather said that America ‘is a sick country.’ In one of his first interviews after his life saving surgery, Reagan said that America is not a sick country because a sick country doesn’t produce people like one of those who protected him after the shots. He cited his name but I forget it.

This was, of course, after the series of assassinations and attempts from 1963 to 1977. In every case but one, the perpetrator was of American background. The one exception was Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, the assassin of Robert F. Kennedy, who is a Christian raised in Palestine, an area with a strong Islamic influence.

Rather, for his part, you can assume, excluded himself from that judgment. He went on to an ignominious end to his tenure as anchor at CBS News over his reportage of George W. Bush’s record in the Alabama Air National Guard based upon documents that were easily exposed as fraudulent.

Fast forward to today. We have had the Fort Hood, San Bernardino & now Orlando massacres (and they were massacres, in every sense of the word). Their one common factor has been that the perpetrators invoked Allah & were Muslims. Where are the pundits questioning Islam? Barack H. Obama and Hillary Clinton have assiduously avoided making reference to it.

Is the difference that the target in the past could be our Judeao-Christian heritage? It's always been fashionable to kick around America and Christianity.

Brady was the name of the man who took bullets for President Reagan; his name was on the Brady Bill (a production of the legislative process) to control guns (and loose nuts) in America The Beautiful.

Blaming guns for k*****gs is the same as blaming gasoline for drunk driving deaths. Armed I am a citizen, disarmed by law I am a subject.

I thought there was a cop who took one or two. I was not thinking of James Brady.

Gun h**ers and grabbers are simply too stupid to understand the real issues in play with the subject...... During the few minutes those 49 people were k**led with a gun in Orlando about 220 were k**led by US drunk drivers. Where is all the hype about: car control, booze control, etc? ...... Fuckin morons.....
