The t***h is, terrorism is not the only issue we face today, it is not even the most urgent and it is certainly not the most deadly issue. Why do we keep harping about Islamic extremists/terrorists/fanatics? Before "terrorism", Americans died needlessly every day. Should we defeat "terrorism" once and for all ( not bloody likely ), Americans would still continue to die needlessly.

As long as there are psychopathic individuals on the earth, there will be terrorism in one form or another. As long as there are disillusioned, disaffected and angry people on the earth, someone will manipulate them into violence. It's been that way since the dawn of man and we'll not change that. We cannot change the nature of man - but we CAN change the nature of our Nation into a fearful and h**eful society.

All around the world, atrocities are committed on a daily basis and the people survive anyway, some of them anyway. There are those for whom violence is the FIRST choice for dealing with everyday issues - and there are those advocating that the US become one of them. H**e has NEVER defeated h**e, nor has violence ever prevented violence, in fact, the two feed off of each other like parasites thus perpetuating themselves like a living thing.

The "t***h about Islam" is not nearly as important as the "t***h about America". We need to decide who WE are, before we spend anymore time on someone else.

You are correct, these issues are an opportunity for the country to do some self reflection. I had always believed that it was our unity and understanding for our differences that was our strength. Violence only does beget violence, but when our intention comes from a stance of compassion it makes us strong.

When we think of human nature there is a common core, we desire to be safe, to go through our lives peacefully and to provide for our loved ones so they may thrive. It is when these things are absent, people feel they have no other choice to survive. If people of terrorists groups were shown other possibilities they would move to the side that would furnish a way for them to be able to do this for themselves, that would be the side they would follow. This is why such a migration is taking place. Now, what we will choose to do, is when Americans come to know the true stature of their character...and the world is watching.
