Please thank her for me, but I stopped reading old rags many years ago, i.e. NYT and WaPo.

Damned good rags to not read. I read both of them about 15 years ago and then realized just what they were.

A successful rancher died and left everything to his dev**ed wife.
She was a very good-looking woman and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand...

Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk.
She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.

He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching..
For weeks, the two of them worked, and the
ranch was doing very well.

Then one day, the rancher's widow said to the hired hand, "You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great.
You should go into town and kick up your heels." The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night.

One o'clock came, however, and he didn't return.
Two o'clock and no hired hand.
Finally he returned around two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher's widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him. She quietly called him over to her..

"Unbutton my blouse  and take it off," she said.

Trembling, he  did as she directed. "Now take off my boots."

He did as she asked, ever so slowly..

"Now  take off my socks."
He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.

"Now take off my skirt."

He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light.

"Now take off my bra.." Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.

Then she looked at him and said, "If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you're fired."

She forgot to add "Now go make me a nice bearnaise sauce like you did last week. I'll be wanting eggs benedict as soon as you're done braiding my hair."

Thanks for asking, Linda. Surgery was last Wednesday and all is progressing well, though I have to say John is a cranky nurse.
But if I ever start feeling sorry for myself I try to think of those who have lost a limb to disease or in battle and I stop whining pretty quickly!
Feeling very thankful I live in a time when my aging body can even get fixed at all!

And with the sling and the recirculating cooling unit on my shoulder I do kind of look like I just stepped out of a Mad Max movie!

Paul, I don't know why I didn't see this before but please forgive me...Heyyyyyy, I do think you look like a mad max character...Probably what John fears~~~

That recirculating cooling unit is really pretty cool looking.. Didn't know they had such a thing ...

Glad to read things went well and your now on the road to full recovery...I am positive you will notice the difference soon enough..Stay strong, keep healthy and tell John its all ok now, he can relax~~~

Give us an update as you progress please...Thought of often, in my prayers you are...(I know how you feel about this, but you are on my nightly candle lighting vigil for healing and peace)..........

Many thanks for your humor, good wishes and indeed prayers, Linda.
The recovery is moving swiftly..I'm out of the sling and head to my first physical therapy this afternoon. This is going to be MUCH easier than the rotator cuff repair I had done two years ago!

I think some may misunderstand my stance on prayer. I believe too many people think of prayer as a visit to God's vending machine. I ask for what I want and God delivers it from his infinite supply of prayer-answering inventory.

I think of prayer instead as a way to heighten our awareness of the connectedness of all things and that, by being as fully present as possible in that moment of prayer, we allow the inherent goodness of all things, including the divine, to circulate more freely between us. That has to be a good thing, no? And it facilitates the possibility of a good outcome (which might be an improvement in health, or an understanding and peace with an outcome we don't really like.) I realize this may sound more than a little "woo-woo" to a lot of people, but it is the way I pray and it brings me a great deal of peace!

I find the way you pray rather refreshing and heart felt to me as well...I love your purpose in it, so no, not "woo-woo" to me at all..Something I will be adding in my thought process that much is sure...Pure, direct and all encompassing!!!

Oh fun, fun, you get to have them work you over all in the healing process...Enjoy, eventually it really does feel good and the exercise is good period...If it isn't just smack John, he'll understand I am sure~~

Please keep us posted I expect to see you pumpen 10 pds soon enough...ONE pound at a time~~

Seriously, easy does it and at your pace, not theirs..At least teh first couple sessions....
