Never intended for civilian use, only for the military to give American troops an advantage over c****e weapons.

It's truly amazing how you could read that article and still think the AR-15 is, in fact, a military weapon.

I'm not going to say anything derrogatory about your intelligence; however, you appear to not know anything about guns.

So, AUTOMATIC is military; SEMI-automatic is not. Civilians cannot legally own automatic military weapons. Do I need to explain the difference?

Of the thousands of ar-15 rifles made,how many are used in attacks? I guarantee you the percentage is minimal.Blame the nuts not the weapon.

If course that's ludicrous. Literally tens of millions Americans enjoy their guns for various recreational endeavors.

Anyway....it's easy to blame an object for social and/or political problems.

No doubt, there's a much more sinister reason to disarm Americans. If you want America to be free and to enjoy the liberties we're accustomed to: leave guns alone. If you want to live like any other country.....move there(?)

Euene Stoner designed military firearms. He did not design civilian arms. However some of his designs were modified for the civilian market. The AR-7 and the Colt AR-15 are two. They are not military and they are not assault rifles. Neither are caable of full automatic fire Therein lies the difference.

This article is a bunch of garbage. First of all, Stoner's original design was trash and a failure. He was bought out by a larger gun company who then came in and redesigned it. That version was a piece of junk too but was a full on machine gun (M16) used in Vietnam. The AR-15 was not Stoner's design and he never once said that he would be horrified at it being the nation's most popular sporting rifle. Also, the AR-15 by legal definition is NOT an assault rifle. An assault rifle by legal definition has a se*****r that allows it to go fully automatic. An AR-15 does not do full auto. Also the AR-15 is a weak round (5.56) compared to the AK-47 (7.62) not sure what advantage having a weaker round with less stopping power is. It is slightly easier to handle but not by a large amount.

I've got to back track here a wee bit. The M-16 is not a machine gun by classification like the guy in the article I posted claimed.
It is fully automatic and was based on the semi automatic Ar-15.
Just want to clear that up.

M-16 original design was a selective fire weapon capable of fully automatic fire- forget the round count per minute. subsequent generations the full auto was removed in favor of a 3 shot burst ( more controll less wasted ammo). which also is not available in the civilian version. The Ar 15 is civilian version not capable of either full auto or 3 shot bursts ( without extensive modification) . the original design was not a failure but a combination of very tight tolerances and the type of propellant used early on and the lack of a forward assist on the bolt led to difficulties in the field as well as some poor maintenance practices. The problems could have been solved very quickly but politics/politicians got in the way. I not going into that fiasco. To say the AR platform was a failure is incorrect - in no way does it compare to the ak series which have very different design parameters other than being designed for miltiary use and that they go bang. If I remember correctly the 223 version is an off shoot of the original 308 Stoner design (aka AR 10) as the miltary was looking for something lighter and less costly to produce and a higher round count magazine- detachable, than the venerable M-1 on which the m14 is based. Any way the M16 is effective to 300 yards the 7.62x39 isn't any better ( actually less) and generally less accurate as well. the Ak's are dang cheap to produce though.
