What happened to Solomon

When Solomon was young he wanted to please God. When he became king, God wanted to give him a gift of whatever he wanted.; we can consider it a blank check. Solomon assessed his situation and realized he ruled over men that may have been stronger and wiser than himself. He asked God for wisdom in order to be a wise king. God was expecting a 19 year old to ask for something material; like long life, victory in battle, or wealth. God was so pleased with Solomon’s request for wisdom that He gave Solomon what he asked for, and the material things he didn’t ask for. Wealth and luxury caused Solomon to go astray. His downfall started with him taking seven years to build God’s temple, but thirteen to build his own house. Deuteronomy 17:16 & 17 forbids a king from multiplying horses, wives, or wealth. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Some of these were Canaanite women who led Solomon to idol worship. Israel was never as strong as under Solomon’s rule. Solomon’s downfall was the start of Israel’s decline. The same things that caused Solomon’s downfall as caused national tragedies. Wealth and luxury have ruined our character. In the pursuit of happiness we have lost our morality. This do nothing feel good love everybody religion we are taught has rendered this generation useless. The church should teach morality and family values.
