In olden days
the tobacco smoke enema was used for medical purposes
one of the purposes being to promote breathing in drowning victims
a rectal tube inserted into the anus was connected to a fumigator and a bellows that forced smoke into the rectum
the smoke was deemed to be helpful to promote respiration
however,doubts about the credibility of tobacco enemas led to the phrase"Blowing smoke up your ass"
as you are probably aware,this odd tool is now being used by our present administration,and by all the other politicians
