That had been my thought when I saw the photos. I firmly believe that little children have no idea at what point a hug (which most animals tolerate but don't like) becomes abuse, and it is the parent's responsibility to teach them so neither the child nor the animal gets hurt.

I think dogs and cats instinctively know not to mess with toddlers. No matter how much abuse they have to put up with.
