I am conflicted on this. Previously Governors restored individual rights on a case by case basis. I question this mass restoring of v****g rights. Also, if a person is good enough to get their v****g rights back, why not their gun rights? Either the person is no longer a danger or they are. Also some people in jail did not commit violence so their gun rights should be on the table.

There are states that restore a felon's v****g rights as soon as they're off parole and some states make people jump through hoops.

Little Ball, Good point! How can ex cons show that they are responsible enough to own a gun? I think that any person that has committed a felony, especially a violent felony should never again be able to own a gun. White collar criminals are another story, but I do agree that they should have a strong sense of responsibility. I just don't know how they can prove it.

Anyone who has committed a felony, violent or not, should have to earn the right to carry a gun. Such a thing requires a strong sense of responsibility. The fact that they are a felon indicates that they are NOT responsible.

At every point you are willing to depart from the wisdom that founded the nation there are ten-thousand others ready to tear it apart and they'll use you as a precedent. This a spiritual t***h as much as a political one.

BigMike, I'm not exactly sure of what you are saying. In a free and open society, people may think out of the box. That's a good thing. I hope that you sometimes do. Thats how we get change and new ideas.

Simple. It may seem right and prudent to deny former felons their 2nd amendment right. Next it's possibly-crazy veterans. Next it's people who've been prescribed Prozac. Next it's who knows who. You, maybe. And it will be done in the name of peace and security. And it won't stop with the 2nd amendment.
