This was just at the Yahoo home page today, May 15. Nothing more to say.

Sure raise the minimum wage & force minimum wage jobs off the market. Nobody will ever lose money underestimating the economic savvy of liberals.

Next stop - twenty five dollars an hour?

Perhaps you haven't noticed that each retail outlet that has installed the impersonal interaction stations maintain staffing to facilitate the use of said machinery.
So I say go for it. It won't save on staffing and will create new jobs to do the upkeep on the machines.

That is not true, asked a store that I go to often and am friendly with the manager, 6 full time jobs were elimited because of the scanners. Broken scanners are managed and repaired under contract.

Since when did corporations need a reason to replace workers with machines?.... they turn to automation every chance they get anyway.

The idea that under paying workers will save or create jobs is the stupidest thing ever.

In reality because of modern and increasingly advanced technology these 'Kiosks' will save literally save billions in both wages and benifits not to mention uniforms, unions, and all the problems of hired help. The 'Big Mac" is soon ready to launch its own developed system. So it stands to reason that it is only a matter of time when the fast food folks will have eliminated their greatest headache. Good for them as it brings cost down. Now if they pass on the savings to the consumer.

The big question is whether the costs of the technological advances, including upkeep, will be justified by the savings on lower paying jobs. The only way that can be tested is in a free market with all levels competing. The minimum wage eliminates that test.

But their staff is reduced or on reduced hrs. So where has that gotten anyone the compensation that they wanted. When only high school kids did these jobs there was no problem. Now with all of the illegal people and legal immigration that has taken away the jobs of the kids and others that do not have a good education. Where on earth does that help these people of poor education. It leaves them on the government freebie list whether they like it or not. They never keep the same staff when ever machines take the job of a person. Just look at the automobile industry. Machines took the job of welding from workers, and yes not all people are dispensed with but only a few are needed to run the machines.

Um, did I say that the maintenance jobs were with the same company?
Could you send me the name of the unit and the manager so that I can email that manager?
Not that it would ever occur to me that you might be blowing smoke...

Well no, the increased minimum wage eliminates BILLIONS in government spending for assistance.
Are you suggesting that it is preferable to feed people through government subsidies?

Is that supposed to make some sense?
I didn't say HIS name, YSF.
I asked for the name of the unit, you get it, right? THE STORE?
31 years ago a store laid off several employees because of mechanized check outs? Really?
