I Have To Post This Once In Awhile: You May Not Be a Drunk & Druggie, But You Might Know Someone Who Is, Feel Free To Pass This To Them, You Might Save Their Life... Don D.

Returning to Basics -- Anonymous

Now and then, an AA discussion focuses on the theme of "returning to the basics." This is a good time to shake out the excessive concerns that might be cluttering up our lives.

No matter how long we've been living in sobriety, we can never afford to dismiss the basic reasons we came to AA in the first place. We had made a mess of our lives, and no human power could relieve our alcoholism. By accepting and admitting this, we were enabled to find a new way of life.

This was also our admission ticket to the larger society, where people are concerned about many things. We sometimes become too caught up in all these concerns, even to the extent of forgetting our own basic sobriety enhancing needs. It's good, occasionally, to focus a meeting on AA basics. They are as essential today as they were when we first knew that we needed them.

Today I'll remember : Program Basics give me a firm foundation on which to stand ..... & live !!

It is easier not to take that first drink than to recover from alcoholism. God's word is a shield. A shield is useless if it is on the ground when an arrow is fired.

Yes that is true, but everyone makes mistakes. Some drink too much, some have a roving eye, some just judge too harshly. God is the ultimate Father! He knows when we need help, when we need corrected, when we need a hug and who deserves which.

After a period of time sober, not just dry, I think about 10 years, looking back over my life, mistakes, terrible thing and just bad things and good things I've seen where God had his finger on the back of my head guiding me to here, 2016 from 1943... ;)

I'm glad you've made it through the bad times to today. It sounds like you have made up for some of those times. There is no doubt that I could have made it through some of the 'times' of my life without the Lord's guidance. I'm definitely depending on him at this time of my life.
