Howard Worth Smith, still an old southern conservative Democratic, a U.S. Representative from Virginia, who was a leader of the powerful but informal conservative coalition who supported both racial segregation and women's rights. Obviously a r****t. He was an old conservative r****ts and did try to block e******y for years in congress, but he does not represent the democratic party of today, your point is moot. You are still back in time almost 100 years so what is your point, things have changed greatly.

Yes, unfortunately, things have changed greatly, mostly for the worst. Our government has spent us into bankruptcy on worthless issues, merely to gain v**es to remain in office. Our government has yielded its sanity to the insane that is l*****t philosophy which is noted for its constant failures. Our government has taken away incentives for people to get ahead, has stolen and destroyed our health care insurance industry. There is NOTHING GOOD ABOUT CURRENT CONDITIONS IN AMERICA TODAY, and that is the fault of l*****t v**ers who put insane and extremely ignorant people in office and of the political right refusing to fight as dirty as their enemies (the political left) fight, hence weak republicans in Congress.

It is not the l*****t(anyone from centered to left) philosophy that has been the constant failures if you look at history it has been under the republican control where we have declined and suffered. America was doing great under Roosevelt and Clinton. Social Security has saved many retired individuals from the edge. The republican party has been bought and sold to corporate enterprise, which lives and thrives not for the concern of its citizens but for the sole purpose of profit, no matter what the cost. Our government has not taken away our health care insurance industry our health care system from insurance company's is a complete joke, due to our health or lack there of, is for profit. It works out better for the health care industry from pharmaceuticals, to hospitalization to not cure us but to string our symptoms along for years. if you ever want to cure anything stay away from western medicine.

Free in Cuba, probably cost thousands for a treatment here.

CimaVax, which is both a treatment and v*****e for lung cancer, has been researched in Cuba for 25 years and free to the Cuban public since 2011. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s trade mission to Cuba in April 2015 resulted in a signed agreement to bring CimaVax to the U.S., but as with all international drugs and treatments, U.S. researchers need to conduct clinical trials and replicate international scientists’ results before it becomes available to the American public.

The t***h is always more complicated than black and white thinking. While conservatives are right that there was no massive party switch, they totally ignore the changing party platforms and the reality of that b****s have clearly chosen the Democrats to represent their interests. That the Democrats used to be the party of s***e-owners and states rights is undeniable. Democrats did found the KKK in response to the imposition of the Republican imposed reconstruction governments in the former confederacy. What is also undeniable is that b****s were loyal to the Republicans that liberated them and tried to enforce their rights as American citizens.

It is also undeniable that the Republicans used the power of the federal government to deny 'states rights' to the former rebellious states.

The reason that b****s are now in the Democrat camp is also undeniable: the Republican party gave up using the federal gov't to enforce the rights of black citizens and switched to the states rights point of view. It was the Democrats who took up the mantle of using the power of the federal gov't to try to enforce the rights of b***k A******ns. The Republicans are unwilling to face the fact that as a party they abandoned the community of b***k A******ns to their fate at the hands of states that were quite willing to deny that community their rights as Americans.

Until Republicans recognize that state governments have often denied American citizens their basic rights and that those citizens rely on the federal government to enforce these basic rights, those citizens will gravitate to the party that is at least willing to state that the federal government has a role to play. It's common sense. Instead, Republicans want to state that b****s are somehow ens***ed, degenerate, or somehow unworthy of having their rights protected, and that it's the Democrats doing it.

And that is the bulls**t they are slinging. It is that BS which prevents them from answering a simple question: why do black citizens not see any benefit from v****g for the Republicans?

You're right, which is why many Americans with cancer go to Cuba for treatment. I have read of cancer treatments that have been buried in the US. I found this out while researching cancer when my mother had gotten it. I also recall victim firemen from 9/11 went to Cuba for treatment, since they weren't getting the help the needed here. Disgraceful.

Most of republican congressional time has been spent under a democrat president, thereby making BOTH worthless and damaging all of us.

That sir is what has destroyed the two party system that was doomed for failure upon it's start as we were warned by the founding fathers. There is only one party in the US with differing names but both sides have the same ultimate goal of control and conversion away from the Constitutional Republic. This is nothing new to the Obama regime as it has been going on since the late 1800s or yearly 1900s. We are a nation divided with no simple way of ever returning to the intended Constitutional way of governance, Trump will be a president with great ideas and vision but one man can not ever return us to the power by the people or the glory we once were.

You told me you were educated. Your education stinks - you should get your money back.

1. More Republicans v**ed in favor of the Civil Rights Act than Democrats
In the 1960s, Congress was divided on civil rights issues -- but not necessarily along party lines.

"Most people don't realize that today at all -- in proportional terms, a far higher percentage of Republicans v**ed for this bill than did Democrats, because of the way the Southerners were divided," said Purdum.
The division was geographic. The Guardian's Harry J. Enten broke down the v**e, showing that more than 80% of Republicans in both houses v**ed in favor of the bill, compared with more than 60% of Democrats. When you account for geography, according to Enten's article, 90% of lawmakers from states that were in the Union during the Civil War supported the bill compared with less than 10% of lawmakers from states that were in the Confederacy.

Enten points out that Democrats still played a key role in getting the law passed.
"It was also Democrats who helped usher the bill through the House, Senate, and ultimately a Democratic president who signed it into law," Enten writes.

2. A fiscal conservative became an unsung hero in helping the Act pass
Ohio's Republican Rep. William McCulloch had a conservative track record -- he opposed foreign and federal education aid and supported gun rights and school prayer. His district (the same one now represented by House Speaker John Boehner) had a small African-American population. So he had little to gain politically by supporting the Civil Rights Act.

Yet he became a critical leader in getting the bill passed.
His ancestors opposed s***ery even before the Civil War, and he'd made a deal with Kennedy to see the bill through to passage.
"The Constitution doesn't say that w****s alone shall have our most basic rights, but that we all shall have them," McCulloch would say to fellow legislators.
Later, he would play a key role in the 1965 V****g Rights Act and the 1968 Fair Housing Act and become part of the Kerner Commission, appointed by the Johnson administration to investigate the 1967 race r**ts.

5. A segregationist congressman's attempt to k**l the bill backfired
Virginia's Democratic Rep. Howard W. Smith was a staunch segregationist and strongly opposed the Civil Rights Act.
Smith, who was chairman of the House Rules Committee, came up with many tactics to discourage the passage of the bill's Title VII, which would outlaw employment discrimination because of race, color, religion or national origin.

Let's say it correctly: a far higher percentage of social liberals v**ed for this bill than did social conservatives and a conservative congressman's attempt to k**l the bill backfired.

You have a distinct problem with the English language, but it's not your fault. You had a poor upbringing.

I said no such thing, I asked you the following:

How do you know the old southern conservative democrat r****t is now a major part of the Republican party?? Who are they, I'd like to know.........

An answer would help.........

Let me give you a hint~~~Feel free to discredit any part or all, should you so desire

The 1964 Civil Rights Act Roll Call V**e: In the House, only 64 percent of the Democrats (153 yes, 91 no), but 80 percent of the Republicans (136 yes, 35 no), v**ed for it. In the Senate, while only 68 percent of the Democrats endorsed the bill (46 yes, 21 no), 82 percent of the Republicans v**ed to enact it (27 yes, 6 no).

Thaddeus Stevens, a Radical Republican that introduced legislation to give African-Americans the so-called 40 acres and a mule and Democrats overwhelmingly v**ed against the bill.

During the Senate debates on the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, it was revealed that members of the Democratic Party formed many terrorist organizations like the Ku Klux Klan to murder and intimidate African-Americans v**ers. The Ku Klux Klan Act was a bill introduced by a Republican Congress to stop Klan Activities.

History reveals that Democrats lynched, burned, mutilated and murdered thousands of b****s and completely destroyed entire towns and communities occupied by middle class B****s, including Rosewood, Florida, the Greenwood District in Tulsa Oklahoma, and Wilmington, North Carolina to name a few.

History reveals that it was Abolitionists and Radical Republicans such as Henry L. Morehouse and General Oliver Howard that started many of the traditional Black colleges, while Democrats fought to keep them closed. Many of our traditional Black colleges are named after white Republicans.

After exclusively giving the Democrats their v**es for the past 25 years, the average African-American cannot point to one piece of civil rights legislation sponsored solely by the Democratic Party that was specifically designed to eradicate the unique problems that African-Americans face today. As of 2004, the Democrat Party (the oldest political party in America) has never elected a black man to the United States Senate, the Republicans have elected three.<snip> More to read, just stopped here.

A poor upbringing or not does not establish the intelligence of a person..Tas, knows exactly what she is saying and is by far not limited in intelligence...Your assertion is once again to discredit the messenger rather than the topic..

I suggest you had a very poor upbringing.....See how that does not work??? It only discredits me for attacking you, simply because I disagree with you.....

You raise some very good questions. I think that folks who know American history know that Republicans were the party that liberated b****s. Only those who don't know history argue otherwise.

But if I were black, I would raise some questions. Mainly...what have you done for me lately?

And before you think I'm talking about free stuff....after 25 years of v****g for the Democrats one reason we can't point to a solution to the unique problems facing b***k A******ns today is because Republicans keep denying b***k A******ns face unique problems in America today. The modern Republican solution to the unique problem of b***k A******n s***ery is: get over it. I didn't own s***es...nor did my parents or grandparents.

After 300 years of gov't enforced oppression...the Republicans seem to think that everything should be cool after the civil rights laws were passed.
News flash: that isn't so. 300 years of oppression is not eradicated by new laws.

While I do not subscribe to the theory that modern conservatives are motivated by r****m, I do think that modern day conservatives underestimate the survival instincts of those who do not trust the State and its enforcers (the police). B***k A******ns have no reason to trust government nor its enforcers.

So, before blaming liberals and Democrats for all the ills of the b***k A******n community, I think conservatives and Republicans should rethink why b***k A******n distrust them so.

It's a simple question: why do b***k A******ns see no benefit in v****g Republican (or conservative, if you want)?
