A question that has been nagging me since 8:45 am.

I saw a car pulled over this morning that was obviously being searched. The state trooper had the driver between the cars talking to him with stuff laying on the hood of the trooper's car.
Not an uncommon sight. Right?
BUT.......the 'driver' only had one arm. I mean nothing on one side, and an arm on the other.
Here is my question: If you are going to arrest a guy with one arm, how are you going to handcuff him?

Good arm with handcuff behind him, other side of handcuff locked around back of belt.

What if he is wearing sweats, and has no belt, or belt loops?

I'm thinking a wrist-to-ankle restraint is going to be in order.
Don't ask me how I know about such things!
  :hunf: :XD:

Use two sets of cuffs so they fit tight around the waist and attach to the one wrist.

Good question. If the person only has one arm, the officer would then use a waist-chain that acts like a belt to secure the arm that is cuffed.

Makes sense. Next question: Do regular cops, state troopers, etc. carry that kind of restraint?
I know.....give me a break! I spend my day looking through a windshield!!

Body chains. Wouldn't be surprised if they had them in the trunk.

Or, handcuff him to the inside of the police cruiser.

One arm handcuffed to an ankle. Either that - or arrest someone else with only one arm and shackle them together. I suppose that would entail a little profiling, but so what?

Yes, they do, for exactly the reason you ask..Body chain around the waist is a mandatory as even people with two arms can be problematic......

I saw one brought in wearing a cast on his arm and he was wrapped in that waisted body chain.....

Yes. They usually carry an equipment bag in the trunk of their vehicle.
